Dr. Vincent C Guida, DO

My fiancé suffers from Secondary Progressive MS and is the love of my life who I rescued from a bad situation where she was about to be homeless and had a meth head for her advocate and landlord before we met at a motel where the police thankfully took her. Sounds to crazy to be true but it is and long story short we ended up in NJ seeing Dr. Guida. No real complaints for 2 years aside from the fact that he constantly cut me off and I sensed he questioned my ability to be an effective caregiver. Recently I requested a doctor note to get out of jury duty as my fiancé requires 24/7 support and cannot transfer or use the bathroom on her own. I was flat out refused on the phone at first and was rudely talked to by his new assistant and other office staff. The next day we showed up for an appt. and I was accused of screaming at his assistant when I simply yet sternly requested to speak to the doctor about the issue first. As soon as he came in he accused me of screaming at his assistant and… "ordered me to sit down as we spoke like he's my Mom and I'm 2. I'm an Army Veteran and don't like taking orders from civilians. So we left after I announced out loud for all to hear in the waiting room that I was rudely denied a doctors note for a very valid reason. Caring and Knowledgeable- YES, Arrogant and Cocky- YES!!!

When I first found Dr. Guida, he was an excellent doctor with great bedside manner. It seems now as in the last 2 years he has become too overwhelmed to deal with any patients or properly take the time to understand them. He now has awful bedside manner and has no problem telling patients they will die if they don't listen to him. He does not consider any other doctor or specialist's concerns or findings, it is his way or no way. No compromise with other professionals in his field. He refuses to speak with any patient on the phone no matter what the situation is and always makes you come in to discuss something that could be done on the phone, always a waste of a copay.

Dr Guida chose not to help us during our families darkest moment.

After reading the two most recent reviews I was reluctant to keep my initial appt with Dr Guida. However, I did keep it. My experience was entirely different than the previous reviewers. I found Dr Guida very professional. He is however the type of Doctor that tells you like it is. He does get to the point but I sense he truly cares about his patients. This I get from my recent experience and from several neighbors and friends. I don't know what happened with the last two reviewers but am glad I found out for myself.

My experience with Dr Guida was the worst I have ever had. He refused to allow me to have my blood work done prior to my appointment for my annual wellness visit. Other doctors I have gone to had the blood work done prior to the appointment so that they could discuss the results during my visit. I asked him for hand written prescriptions so I could shop around for the best price and he refused that request. He became hostile when I could not remember the name of the doctor who had done my colonoscopy a few months earlier. He implied that I must be senile or lying. When I finally got the results of my blood work, he had someone call me and tell me that everything was ok. I got a copy of the results from the lab and discovered that he had not had my liver function tested. I have never had blood work done without testing liver function. When I called his office to question it, I was told that he did not test it because my insurance would not pay for it. I am very sure that he forgot to… order the test and is not willing to admit his mistake. My experience with Dr. Guida was so bad that I am changing my insurance at a cost of $2,000 a year just to be able to go to another doctor.

Dr. Guidi will not speak to a patient on the phone no matter how serious the situation appears. After a routine blood screening I received a surprised call the next day to come in the office immediately and go get a second blood screening immediately. I was in the middle of a sporting event when the nurse said stop that immediately as well. When I asked to talk with the doctor to verify how serious the condition was he refused to talk to me, even though he was standing directly behind the nurse that was relaying his instructions. I have found that he may be a good technician but he has a problem communicating with his patients. I have never felt he listened to my input and therefore only a few of my question get answered. When I explained my concerns he was very defensive and said his staff will do the communicating and under no circumstance will he talk on a phone no matter the situation. That 's not acceptable because I expect better service.

Dr. Guida is a good doctor but he does not dispense pain meds if you are in pain and when he gives any prescription he only gives it for a 1 time or 0 time refill even when it is a medication you are taking long term. The staff never responds to the pharmacy to okay new refills. This is the problem - not really him but staff that may or may not be giving him messages. If he is declining to have them call the pharmacy then at least they could call the patient to tell them why or what is going on. It's very very frustrating.

I have been seeing Dr Guida for several years now. He is thorough and actually takes the time to talk and answer questions. I never feel like I'm rushed through the appointment like most other offices. He leaves no stone unturned, which is rare these days.
