Dr. Vincent Frederick Colon, MD

Last year, I went to Dr. Colon for my child's treatment. During our initial visit, he contacted another doctor who my child was seeing without my knowledge or consent. Also, he prescribed a certain medication which I had filled and which my child began to take each day. Fortunately, about 10 days later, I had a follow-up visit with my child's developmental pediatrician (who is also a medical doctor familiar with this medication). I told him what kind of medication Dr. Colon prescribed and he then asked me whether Dr. Colon took a blood test done in order to get a baseline of my child's blood sugar levels and whether he also told me that my child would need to continue to have these blood tests for as long as my child is on the medication mentioned. I said no. He looked surprised and then told me that one of the more serious side effects from this drug is that this medication can cause diabetes and that it's important that my child have regular blood test following an initial baseline… blood test. If you want a doctor who doesn't warn you of serious side effects of medication, Dr. Colon's your guy. If you want a guy who breaches doctor-patient confidentiality, Dr. Colon is your guy.

Dr. Colon seemed excellent and professional at first. However, after several visits, he was spending less and less time with me. His initial diagnosis of depression came after about 10 minutes of talking to me and asking a handful of questions. The meds he put me on helped but his lack of caring and unprofessional attitude took a toll on my trust and liking of him. At times he could be needlessly and unprofessionally defensive about his opinions of concerns I had, even after trying my best to explain myself clearly. He also seemed very disinterested in anything going on in my life and brushed aside new developments that I brought to his attention. I stopped visiting him and I wouldn't recommend anyone start.

Doctor Colon was very helpful at one point. However that was until he had spoken with a family member of mine. He should not have taken the phone call and allowed someone who was part of my mental health issues at the time to speak with him. It ruined all trust. Since then I found great mental health professionals who got me through everything. Its been two years since I have had to see any mental health professional. I am doing great!

I rarely take the time to review a Dr. unless the treatment received is excellent. My experience here was anything but. Dr. Colon met with my son alone for 10 minutes after asking my husband and I a bunch of questions. I knew exactly where he was heading by the questions he was asking, all of which did not apply to my son or what we brought him in for. After 10 minutes he labeled my son with a diagnosis that didn't even apply to him. When I felt skeptical about returning, I phoned him to ask where he arrived at such a diagnosis and especially after 10 minutes. Not only could he not answer the question, he became extremely defensive and condescending. When I discussed the diagnosis with my Primary Care Physician, he asked me who even came up with something so off target. I decided to cancel my follow up appt and would be very weary before taking another child to see him.

Honestly I wouldn't recommend him to anyone, he really isn't effective or caring. He comes off nice and pleasant at first but after several visits he seemed to be less interested and compassionate. Not to mention he misdiagnosed me from the onset. I wouldn't recommend seeing him for any reason and I wish there was a way I could report him to someone who could have his practice closed because at the rates he charges I was legitimately robbed.

I am a long-time professional colleague of Dr. Colon. He is a trustworthy and astute clinician and excellent with medication management. I have had only wonderful experiences with him and he has helped all of the patients and families I have referred to him. Psychiatry is a combination of art and science and his experience provides patients with a high likelihood of success.

Not professional or caring. Didn't seam committed to me as a patient. I found him more interested in himself and proving his own knowledge and understanding rather than caring for me as a patient. I also found him to be very judgmental and condescending. On several occasions he not only failed to remember what was going on in my personal life but felt entitled to give his unsolicited opinion when I reminded him. Overall not a pleasant person to be treated by and definitely not worth the high cost per visit.

I've read all these negative reviews and have to disagree with the majority of them. I don't want possible future patients to read these reviews, get the wrong idea and then pick someone else. Let me say I have been seeing him for 8+ years, so yes I might have a different experience due to him being my doctor starting from a teenager into my mid twenties. I am still currently seeing him and plan on seeing him until I no longer require a psychiatrist (which seems hopeful, but unlikely). There are some negatives with Dr. Colon- he is very busy and is often difficult to get a hold of and will take some time to call you back, I completely agree with that. He doesn't take insurance (or at least my insurance) so it is unfortunate that a 20 minute session costs a few hundred dollars but it is completely worth it. I wish I was able to see him as a therapist, because he always listens and gives me great advice. He always knows what is currently happening in my life, and will always ask about… specific members of my family. Before seeing him I had been to multiple psychiatrists, each worse than the one before. If you are looking for a doctor who truly cares about your diagnosis and wants to help you feel better- Dr. Colon is the way to go.

I didn't find him helpful at all. Dr. Colon seemed more interested in writing me prescriptions and sending me out the door to his satisfaction than actually listening to my concerns. I wouldn't recommend him to anyone. His diagnosis may have been accurate but his professionalism and bedside manner were atrocious.

The most unprofessional "doctor" I have ever had the displeasure of meeting with. I wouldn't recommend this man to anyone.
