Dr. Karolewics is not only one of the most brilliant doctors we had the pleasure of dealing with in the care for my father -- and that includes those at one of the country's top cancer care and university research hospitals -- but he is also one of the kindest. He visited my father even after hours and on weekends while he was in the hospital and was active in directing his care. He always consulted when we were concerned about decisions made by other specialists on his team, and his opinion was obviously well respected. His bedside manner is a model to be emulated by other doctors. He's unafraid to establish a personal connection with his patients and their family members, and treats his patients as individuals always worthy of his time, which though surely very limited never ever seemed rushed. He has a unique ability to convey compassion and instill hopefulness without ever giving false hope. I can't say enough good things about this doctor, and his exceptional level of… expertise.

If you have cancer and are looking for a doctor that cares about your well being, you drive to Birmingham before going there! The staff is totally unprofessional. My mom was throwing up and in excruciating pain from her first week of treatment and he had no care at all! Didnt have time to write her a prescription for nausea or pain! She was in the office crying and they said they would call back by the end of the day and never did. It's worth the drive to Huntsville or Birmingham where you have doctors and staff that care about you and want their patients comfortable, instead of treating them like their a hindrance! Cancer patients are going through enough trauma than to add additional stress, pain and bad bedside mannerism!
