Dr. Vivien Chan, MD

As other reviewers mentioned, "rude and entitled" and "fake smile" hits the nail right in the head. She doesn't care about anyone except her own inflated ego.

She is an unqualified doctor and an awful person. She is super passive aggressive every time she opens her mouth. If I filled her 1-inch pile of forms not fast enough, she would say I should have come in early (which I did). If I did not use the medical terminologies correctly, instead of professionally interpreting my input, she would give me a long lecture on how wrongly I represented my conditions as if I was her student in med school, not a patient in a clinic. She also trashed my therapist who uses a different approach than what she thinks he should. When I told her how great other psychiatrists I previously saw before moving my business to her, she got very insecure and tried to invalidate my opinions. Even if I am getting better, she doesn't like hearing it; instead, she wants to invalidate everything I say to make it like she is always right and everyone else is an idiot (not just me, but also other doctors and therapists). She likes booking very, very long appointments (at… least an hour) and discredited everything I said, as if I was a defendant in a courtroom, picking on every term, every phrase, every clause I use. It's exasperating to see her. Her smile is so fake and cringe-worthy that anyone can clearly see she has issues with her work, hates being there but just tries to appear on duty. I don't know how they hired her as the director supervising the other three psychiatrists at UCI. She must be a really good manipulator at the office.

She was so helpful sorting out my family and career options. After I graduated, I even drove from Contra Costa to see her a few times. She's a great doctor!

Barely competent but this is outweighed by how rude and entitled this doctor when my daughter and I met with her when she had her private practice. Thank goodness she left, but I feel bad for the students at UCI who don't have a choice and are forced to see her. Would not recommend seeing her if you have a choice...
