I couldn't be more against the guy who talked about his 4 year old son, having problems with Dr. Chiu. I have been going to Dr. Chiu off and on for over 15 years. He is probably one the most competent Drs. I have ever met. He is above any reproach to those patients who answer his questions honestly and without trying to hide something. I and my wife have went to Dr Chiu for various reasons over the years. We have never found him lacking either in Medical knowledge or "bedside manners". I'm sorry this person had problems with their son and his last visit to Dr.Chiu. I wanted to voice my opinion of the Dr. and give a "second opinion" of the man as a Doctor AND a human being.

My 4 year old son had to have oral surgery at Silver Springs Surgery Center in Cape Girardeau. When I filled out his pre-op information I included the fact that he had a runny nose, fever blisters, and had been sneezing for several days. I am NOT a doctor and did not realize that if a child is sick they should not be put under anesthesia. Dr. Chiu cleared my son for surgery. Next thing I know I am being told that he is very I'll and needs to be transferred to a hospital for suspected pneumonia. He was intubated 2 times at the surgery center, one of which he was DEFINITELY awake. He was transferred to the ER and after a chest X-ray he was admitted for possible pneumonitis. The next morning they did another chest x-ray and cleared him to go home and said it was more likely he aspirated mucous into his lungs from anesthesia. Dr. Chiu did call me multiple times while we were at the hospital, but rather then sounding concerned for my son he sounded as if he were trying to cover up his… mistake. He has ALSO argued with me claiming that it is MY fault any of this happened because he "depends on the parents to know a Childs symptoms" which were verbally addressed as well as on paper. In my opinion he is extreme incompetent and not fit to practice ANY sort of medicine.
