Dr. Walter Ray Obrien, MD

I have been seeing Dr. O’Brien for 20 years on and off. I have always found him to be patient, caring and always willing to take as much time as needed to explain my treatment options. His office always squeezes me in when my back is hurting. Dr. O’Brien also did my rotator cuff surgery almost 20 years ago and I have never had another problem with it. Also, he’s a nice guy! Highly recommend him.

Dr. O'Brien is a pretty good doctor enjoy he spends time with his patients when I'm with him he does not rush out of the room but listen to all of my complaints and concerns that's why I like him.

Shady business practices! I sought out this doc because Health Net listed him as a preferred provider, and his office never told me otherwise until we were in a billing battle. Now, I'm having to fork over more cash because the doc and Health Net won't communicate. Any doc that doesn't do the right thing and squeezes the consumer instead of working out his problems with health insurance shouldn't be in business.

When you need to see an Orthopedist, you don't want delays, unsent approvals and paperwork to your insurance provider, and a rude, self-important staff that barks at you. I have never see such a travesty in a doctor's office, and there have been some bad ones in the past! In particular the woman running the staff, "Terry" was absolutely awful, unorganized and had no concern about lying to patients - she told me she sent my paperwork in and blamed my insurance and I confirmed later she had never sent it in. When confronted, she didn't apologize and said it didn't matter - she was busy and wasn't going to send it in with a rush. I hadn't even asked yet! When I told her she had incorrectly told me she sent it in and could she please rush it, she again refused and said I could find another doctor! The only sensible thing she said to me from the moment I walked in. As for Dr. O'Brien, he spent all of 2 minutes with me, and did not even look at my x-rays with me... that would have been fine,… but he didn't even bother to tell me what to do for my torn knee while I waited for the MRI approval, nor was he particularly sympathetic. I would stay away from this doctor's office altogether (Pacific Coast Sports Medicine) as I believe there are far better Orthopedic doctors close by. Being delayed with a serious injury can cause real problems down the road for you and it's not worth it.

Had been seeing Dr. Obrien for years in need of hip replacement. He kept telling me to wait it out. Basically suffer through the pain as much as I could. The last time I went to see him to tell him I couldnt take the pain any longer he said I like to wait till my patients are begging for surgery before I do it. So after begging for the surgery and suffering for several years, I was told that the same insurance that he had been taking all of a sudden wasnt good enough to do the surgery. I was basically dismissed by him and his staff at that point. Left to start all over with a different doctor. I then changed insurance to one that Dr. Obrien accepted for surgery. The staff and Dr. Obrien continued to ignore my calls and dismiss me while I was suffering with a great deal of pain. I have since filed a greviance with the insurance company to make them aware of this negligent behavior.

The office staff does nothing to help get you an appointment and makes patient do everything. Slow to respond back to phone calls

an accident brought me to Dr O'Brien's office. I broke a bone, and he followed up after my ER visit. I saw him 4 times. His bedside manner is awful, he is uncaring, and spent very little time (5 minutes or less) during each follow up visit. He seems to be bored, and the office is like a factory. very sad

Met this doctor at the Malibu clinic after I broke my wrist. He travels out of his way 2 days weekly to help at this clinic! That's a good attitude for patients. At the clinic, the wait was longer than his office. His office is nice and he has excellent and efficient staff. I am happy with his diagnosis and his care.

Dr. O'Brian performed Hip replacement surgery on me over three years ago. My recovery time was easy - and I feel that I owe that to Dr. O'Brian's skill at what he does. I can now walk with ease and comfort. I would not hesitate to recommend him as a very competant and caring surgeon and doctor.

There are many other orthopedic doctors close by that I think are better. Skip this one.
