He did a complete reverse shoulder replacement. I had minimal pain which he managed superbly. The surgery was completely successful and I now have 90% range of motion after 5 months and am still improving. His staff, Helene and others, are excellent and the people at Carrel Clinic are highly professional and caring. I cannot praise Dr. Burkhead highly enough or thank him sufficiently for my recovery. As an extra plus, he does everything with an understandable and complete explanation, but with an incredible sense of humor that puts all of his patients at ease. He is just the best of the best. Dr. Burkhead was incredibly informative and patient with me as I had many concerns with proceeding with shoulder surgery. He and his staff explained the surgery, therapy and expectations. I was beyond thrilled with the results of the surgery on my left shoulder that I proceeded forward with repair of my right (2.5 years after my left). If I had any concerns or doubts, I would have sought alternative treatment or found a different surgeon for surgery on my right shoulder. Myself and children are forever indebted to Dr. Burkhead - I can play catch and swim with my children!!!

I had been looking for a doctor that performed partial shoulder replacement and the only ones I'd found were on either the east or west coast. One day I found an article talking about Dr. Burkhead and a technique he used for partial replacement surgery. After seeing him and discussing my situation I had him perform the surgery. I'm extremely happy with the results. Virtually no pain now and I was able to begin weight training with light weights after only 4 months. I'd recommend him to anyone needing shoulder replacement surgery.

Had a total reverse rt. shoulder replacement one year ago with amazing positive results. Have returned to 90% of all normal activities and am completely pain free. Had 80% improvement in 90 days and am so glad we decided on the procedure and Dr. Burkhead. His whole team is amazing and he has a goofy, friendly, easygoing manner that makes the process so much less intimidating that it seems before you start. Kudos to Dr. Burkhead and his staff!! I had been suffering daily shoulder pain for 3 years. At age 83, my quality of life was limiting all the things in life I love to do such as cooking. It became a monumental task to cook a cake. A friend of mine had told me that Dr. Burkhead performed his shoulder replacement and what a change it had made in his life. Within four days after my total shoulder replacement, I was pain free and off pain medications.
