Dr. Weiru Shao, MD, PhD

This was probably the most interesting Dr.'s visit I had in my entire life. Before seeing Dr. Shao, I was told by the Audiologist that my 5 yo son had a high frequency hearing loss on his right ear and was referred to Dr. Shao. Expecting to get an explanation and full discussion on the reasons and implications of this hear loss we went to see Dr. Shao for our appointment. We were greeted by a very friendly nurse and were told to wait for Dr. Shao. He came looked at my son's ear for around 10-15 seconds and told us that he will need to see us every 3 months and if things don't change the frequency of the visits will decrease. Wrote the same thing on a paper and attempted to leave. The entire visit was probably around 2 minutes up to that point. I couldn't believe that he didn't even ask if we had any questions or had the decency to show us the results or explain them. I was obviously very frustrated with his approach and stopped him and asked him to show me the results. He prints the… results and attempts to leave again. I was about to lose it! I asked him to explain the results after which he offered a brief explanation. I am not sure what his problem is but someone needs to convince him that he is there to offer human care and support to people who have no idea about his specialty. This is especially very wrong when the patient is a child. I would not recommend him to anyone, but especially if you have kids please avoid him for your own sake and sanity.

Dr. Shau spent less than 5 minutes with me, diagnosed my ear ringing as TMJ, and told me the only treatment is never to eat hard foods again. Only after I returned home I learned there are treatments for TMJ. Best to avoid him and find a better Dr

I read the reviews on here and was hesitant on seeing Dr. Shao. My appointment lasted for 45 minutes, he was very thorough and offered a treatment plan after my examination. I didn't feel rushed and he explained everything in detail. I felt a sense of relief after leaving his office.

I went to Dr. Shao for an consult about hearing loss I was experiencing. He made inappropriate and discouraging comments about my hearing loss. In addition, he didn't discuss any treatment options, other than to order a CT scan, and spent less than 5 minutes with me. The appointment was very upsetting and a waste of time and money.

I saw Dr. Shao fort nose, I wasn’t able to breathe well. He prescribes nasal spray the first, second, and third time, then finally He recommends surgery. It went well except for the fact that nothing changed after all is healed. Still not able to breathe clearly and well, I went back to Shao’s office and he keeps recommending the nasal spray that I’ve been using already for the last 2 years. He then says we can try a simple surgical procedure that involves shrinking what he cut the last time, but further speaks of the spray. I told him I’m finding a different specialist, and he could careless. Every checkup, follow up or visit with him was 2 minutes long because he was careless, not to mention waiting an hour after scheduled time for visit to see him.

One of the worst experiences I've ever encountered with a doctor by far. I was seeking help after suffering from chronic ear infections so I refered me to him. A complete waste of my time. He did not listen to my symptoms nor did his homework. He did not care for me nor did he care about investigating the cause. Told me the doctors I was seeing were misdiagnosting my infections as "just ear pain". Very condescending. He looked in my ear and that's it -all done. I would not recommend him at all! I left disappointed, unsatisfied and in the verge of tears because I left with no answer to the cause of my chronic right ear infections and on top the horrible experience he gave me. I'm going for a second opinion and definitely have requested NOT with him.

Dr. Shao is a very professional and intelligent surgeon. He performed my surgeries, and followed up, and made recommendations such as special ear plugs and possible future problems,etc. He was very confident, reassuring, and made an accurate diagnosis. Surgery went well, and he explained EVERYTHING. He took the time to make sure I understood everything, and it was very educational as I am a med student. I was saddened to know he went to Worcester but was alerted via mail and given great referrals to BMC to only the best over there to continue with my chronic ear disease.

I came to see Dr. Shao in hope to get help with complications after a very bad flu. Instead I got unprofessional behavior (or maybe he was joking?). I left his office feeling unsatisfied with a prescription I am not comfortable to use.

Very poor experience. The doctor was not interested in listening to an of the details of the symptoms. Has an extremely condescending manner. A total waste of my time.

Excellent surgeon. Not the best with mothers of pediatric patients. Adult patients love him. Funny, affable, capable, and available.
