Dr. Werner G Schroffner, MD

I went to Dr. Schroffner for many years. He is very good. One thing I've put up with is the long wait times over the years. The wait in the waiting room is about 10-15 minutes, but in the examination room, sometimes I've waited anywhere from 30 to 60 minutes. His staff has the very bad habit of triple booking people for one time slot. Be careful if you call up for an appointment and they say they will "squeeze you in", because that means you will be waiting for over an hour for your appointment. Even if you have an actual appointment time, there's no guarantee you will be out of there quickly, as there may be others they "squeeze in" during your time slot. For example, I had an 11:15 appointment, arrived there at 11:05am and saw 8 people ahead of me on the list, with nobody's name scratched off. I had my young son with me, and when we asked about the wait time, we were informed it was going to be quite awhile. All the people waiting were people aged 70+ who are retired and have the… time to wait. At this point in my life, I no longer have that kind of time to wait at a doctor's office. I also feel like he has seen me for so long, that he really doesn't listen to me anymore at times, but he does take time with each patient. I'm sorry to switch, but I can't handle the long wait times; I just don't have the time like I used to. I also need a fresh set of eyes to look at me.

He is such a great doctor. He actually listens, spends time with you, and actually thinks about how best to treat you. You may spend some time in the waiting room, though, because he is likely also spending time with the person ahead of you.He also tells it like it is. He REALLY knows his stuff and he is willing to explain things to you. I am the type of patient that brings all sorts of data and info in with me and he heard me out and told me where I was wrong or when he disagreed with what I was saying. A lot of times I go to see doctors and seem to know more than they do about whatever I am dealing with... but not with him. I felt very safe placing my health in his hands.When I got pregnant, he was concerned with my health since I had cancer before and have hypothyroidism. He kept my TSH very low, where it needs to be during pregnancy (my Gyno didn't agree with me or know that!) I have a very healthy and bright baby girl now and had an uneventful pregnancy. I think keeping my… medication right did wonders for me.I'm sad I left the island. My new Endo doesn't listen and can't compare!

Dr. Schroffner thinks about what he is doing and it is obvious he knows what he is doing. He will give detailed explainations if you ask and shows great concern for his patients by his being available to answer questions. He is also very polite, which is a great help to a sick patient.

It's not often you find a doctor who is so willing to care for you - for 28 years. through thick and thin, disaster (broken back) to gastric by-pass, he was there caring for my husband and me. Hard to find quality like him these days.
