Summary

A native of Long Island, New York, Dr. Ahrens received a Bachelor of Science degree in Biochemistry with distinction from the State University of New York at Stony Brook, where he also received his M.D. with Research Distinction. Dr. Ahrens served as Administrative Chief Resident during his training in Anatomic Pathology at Yale School of Medicine, and went on to serve as a Fellow in Gastrointestinal and Liver Pathology at Yale. In addition, he completed fellowships in Bone Pathology under Dr. K.K. Unni, and soft tissue pathology under Drs. Antonio Nascimento and Andrew Folpe at the Mayo Clinic in Rochester, Minnesota. Dr. Ahrens relocated to Charlotte in 2007 and joined Carolinas Pathology Group and Celligent Diagnostics. He is Board Certified in Anatomic Pathology by the American Board of Pathology, Dr. Ahrens is a member of the College of American Pathologists, as well as the United States and Canadian Academy of Pathologists. He and wife Danielle have three children.
