Dr. William Alan Friedman, MD

It so weird to me some people posted negative reviews on here. My wife & I found Dr. Friedman to be very professional, easy to work with, listened to our concerns & answered our questions. He was accurate in his diagnosis & quick to work out a solution. I had Trigeminal Neuralgia for years & didn't want to do the surgery, until we met Dr. Friedman. He gave us the confidence to move forward. He has done thousands of MVD Microvascular Decompression Surgeries with a proven track record. My referring Doctor told us Dr Friedman is the "go to" Surgeon in the SE United States. My surgery was scheduled promptly. Everyone was very nice, caring & accommodating. The surgery went as planned. The care after surgery by the UF Hospital staff was better than other hospitals I'd utilized for other surgeries. My Trigeminal Neuralgia was gone immediately after the surgery & my recovery went exactly as discussed. I am VERY THANKFUL to Dr. Friedman for curing me. My quality of life is much… better now.

In the 5 minutes he spent with me, he stuck me with a sewing needle and felt he diagnosed me. Never mind the nerve blocks I had had, nor the patient history he failed to take. He ordered yet another MRI, despite pointing out issues on the MRI sent to him. There were some very concerning results that came back, yet when I called for the follow up. His nurse told me he wouldn’t be meeting with me to review my results with me. I asked for a referral and she shut me down. Definitely do not recommend him to anyone.

Dr. Friedman performed back surgery on me in January. My aftercare was trusted to two 3rd year residents who failed to treat my adverse events in aa appropriate and timely manner. This resulted in multiple infections leading to sepsis. Multiple DVT’s and a Pulmonary Embolism. After 11 months, multiple procedures and hospitalizations and medical bills of over $225,000 I’m now left with Chronic Pulmonary Embolism Syndrome and Collagenous Colitis. And the back surgery failed.

Very caring and understanding. Very pleasant manner. Made me feel comfortable and confident.

We went to Dr. Friedman out of extreme desperation over 2 years ago. He had debilitating (entire) left side facial pain from damage due to undiagnosed facial shingles. In our meeting with Dr. Friedman spoke to his assistant, said he would do a DREZ procedure and told us an appointment would be made. We had no idea what the procedure involved, and it was intensive, very intensive. It required a few nights in the ICU, a few weeks in a rehab, with huge physical and cognitive recovery. And then one month later a helicopter ride back to Gainesville with meningitis. Two years later, half the pain (from the ear down) has returned. He has lost a lot of functionality on his left side, still has very extreme pain. He has sores on the back of his neck that pop up randomly, they look like burns and poor out fluid profusely. As far as Dr. Friedman's personality, I have no comment one way or another. One Dr. on his team was very compassionate and caring. We were extremely… disappointed with the lack of follow-up or interest in his recovery after such a rare surgery. I would say to anyone considering this surgery, to seriously reconsider.

On a scale of 1 to 10 (with 10 being the worst pain I've experienced in my 74 years) my pain was a 16! I was approximately one week away from being confined to a wheelchair for the rest of my life. Dr. Friedman studied my MRI and within a few minutes said, "I know what the problem is and I can solve it". That took place on a Thursday and Dr. Friedman scheduled my back surgery for the following Tuesday. After surgery I was completely PAIN FREE and, after about 20 minutes in the recovery room, was able to walk down the hosptial halls. To this day I have been 100% pain free thanks entirely to Dr. Friedman's skill as a surgeon. He gave me my life back and I couldn't be more grateful!!

I had endured trigeminal neuralgia for 5 years. The pain was getting more severe and more often. I feel Dr. Friedman is a miracle worker. I had the microvascular decompression surgery done 8 weeks ago. For me it is a miracle to no longer have any pain. He truly has given me my life back. I can now eat, drink, talk, brush my teeth, etc. without any pain. I see some negative comments here, and I am quite shocked. I found none of these to be true.

Had a great experience with Dr Friedman at his team at Shands. I would highly recommend them.

I had an outstanding experience with Dr. Friedman. First of all, the UF Neuromedicine Facility is very efficient and well run. Making appointments, confirming appointments, parking, checking in, etc.. was very easy. Staff are friendly and respectful. Dr. Friedman gave me very clear and helpful explanations about my condition and options. I would certainly see him again

MRI indicated bilateral neural foraminal stenosis. I have had severe sciatica for several years. I have tried everything but no relief. Dr Friedman recommended surgery at L5-S1. After surgery, no more sciatica. Playing pain free golf for the first time in many years. Wish I had done this sooner
