Summary
Dr. Lau (she/her) is double board-certified in child & adolescent psychiatry and adult psychiatry. She completed her bachelor's degree at Duke University with a thesis on Haitian ethnopsychiatry and master's degree in human nutrition at Columbia University. She received her medical degree at New York Medical College and completed general psychiatry residency at Metropolitan Hospital in New York City and child & adolescent psychiatry fellowship at Mt. Sinai Elmhurst Hospital in New York City. During her fellowship, she was Chief Fellow and a Child PRITE fellow, writing exam questions for the nation-wide Child & Adolescent Psychiatry Resident In-Training Exam. She completed training in Foundations of Family Therapy at the Ackerman Institute of Family Therapy.
Dr. Lau's approach to psychiatry is holistic and patient-centered. She believes in the importance of therapy with medication management as an adjunct treatment, and seeks to explore cultural, relational, and societal dynamics …affecting her patients. She incorporates various therapeutic interventions, including lifestyle modifications, psychodynamic therapy, cognitive-behavioral therapy (CBT), parent management training (PMT), and family therapy. She enjoys getting to know her patients as people first, and aims to provide warm, compassionate care while advocating for her patients.
Dr. Lau has experience working with patients of diverse cultures, socioeconomic statuses, and psychiatric conditions. Her clinical interests include mood disorders, developmental disabilities, trauma-related disorders, ADHD, and eating disorders. She speaks English, Cantonese, and French.
In her spare time, Dr. Lau enjoys reading, pottery, cooking, playing board games, hosting dinner parties, and spending time with her husband and two cats, Lychee and Yuzu.
