Dr. Nia Harris, MD

Dr. Harris attended Amherst College where she graduated Cum Laude, earning her Bachelor of Arts in Psychology. She earned her medical degree from the University of Connecticut School of Medicine, where she was a recipient of the Certificate in Social Determinants of Health and Disparities. Dr. Harris completed her internship and adult psychiatry residency training at New York-Presbyterian/Weill Cornell Medicine, where she served as chief resident. During residency, she completed a one-year fellowship in Recognizing and Eliminating Disparities in Addiction through Culturally Informed Healthcare. After residency, Dr. Harris completed fellowship training in Consultation-Liaison Psychiatry at New York-Presbyterian/Weill Cornell Medicine, serving as the inaugural fellow. She previously served as an Assistant Attending Psychiatrist at the Center for Special Studies where she provided collaborative care to patients with HIV/AIDS. Dr. Harris currently works as a board-certified Assistant …Attending Psychiatrist on the Consultation-Liaison Psychiatry service and is the transplant psychiatrist for the Weill Cornell Medicine/NewYork-Presbyterian Advanced Heart Failure and Heart Transplant Program. Dr. Harris teaches and supervises medical students and residents and is an Assistant Training Director of the General Psychiatry Residency Program. She has published and presented in a number of areas including healthcare inequities, racial/cultural treatment dynamics, addiction psychiatry and trainee education.
