Dr. Nina Kokayeff

Dr. Kokayeff was assigned to my daughter's case at Mission Hospital and, although the hospital was excellent overall, Dr. Kokayeff was the worst doctor we have EVER encountered. In addition to being rude, dismissive and EXTREMELY uncommunicative in regards to us and the nursing staff, her "care" was non-existent and definitely falls under the definition of negligent. My daughter is a T1D with several complications and was admitted with a couple of critically high numbers in her blood work. Only one of the two life-threatening conditions she was facing was treated and, even then, the doctor refused to consider my daughter's history with her diabetes care. At one point, she indicated that she didn't believe what my daughter had to say about the complications that, in the past, have almost resulted in death. Because the doctor didn't listen to what my daughter had to say regarding the insulin protocols previously put in place by highly respected specialists, she put orders in that were… exactly opposite, resulting in dangerouly high blood glucose levels. The other critical condition my daughter had when she was admitted had to do with her liver. The doctor completely ignored the alarming test results and planned on sending my daughter home without a followup test or treatment. The medical director of the hospital had to be brought in and, at that point it was determined that my daughter's levels were still critically high and required immediate treatment. If she had been sent home without treatment, the condition would have been life-threatening. Thankfully, we stood our ground and my daughter got the treatment she needed to be safely discharged, although it was a couple of days later than it would have been if she received the treatment when she should have.
