Arely Valdez-Perez is a nurse practitioner who ensures honesty, respect and compassion are the pillars of her practice. She wants patients to feel empowered and comfortable talking about their medical needs.

“I want them to know I have their best interest at heart and will work hard to help them achieve their goals,” she said. “I want my patients to know I will deliver evidence-based care tailored to their specific needs and will always treat them as an individual and not just a patient.”

Valdez-Perez believes that the lack of preventive care and access to health care is one of the biggest health risks facing Southern Arizonans. Her hope is to help mitigate these issues through her primary care practice.

“Preventing or catching a disease early on can result in more favorable outcomes for patients and their families,” she said. “That’s why it’s so important for people to have a primary care provider they trust.”

In addition to primary care, Valdez-Perez is particularly interested in …helping patients with advance care planning.

Valdez-Perez grew up in Phoenix and came to Tucson to earn a Bachelor of Science in Nursing from the University of Arizona. While she was completing her undergraduate studies, she worked in a research lab investigating chronic pain. Upon receipt of her bachelor’s degree, she worked as a nurse and nurse manager in a trauma/surgical/burn intensive care unit before going back to the UA to earn a Doctorate in Nursing Practice with an emphasis on primary care.

When she is not working, she enjoys travel, swimming, hiking in national parks and sitting on the porch with her family and her dog.
