Dr. Aaron Nathan Hartman, MD

Dr Hartman is awful. He doesn’t listen to the patient, he calls in RXs that the patient doesn’t even take and never said anything about it the the patient. Calls for medical testing to be done on patient by a specialist and never told the patient patient had to hear about it from the specialist calling to setup tests. Calls in Rxs to wrong pharmacies. All of these things have happened numerous times. He is absolutely the worst PCP in the Va area.

Honestly, I went to/and trusted dr. Hartman. After all, he was my family doctor for years. I was drastically let down while under his care for my out of control eating disorder though. After initially telling him that I was really struggling, the first thing he said was “well, I’ve seen people much worse”. My eating disorder saw that as a challenge and I got to a really low weight, organ failure, and lab work that he had “never seen before and maybe I should just go sit in a hospital somewhere”. It was pure negligence on his part.

I have been a patient of Dr. Hartman's since I moved to Virginia several years ago. I was impressed with his knowledge and the time he spent with me. However, slowly he began recommending certain vitamins and supplements. After doing some of my own research, I learned that this was something Dr. Hartman was directly profiting from. I spoke with another doctor (my specialist) about this and she said this was very inappropriate. He never divulged this to me. Red flag! I decided to stick with him and at my last appointment, my physical, Hartman barely made eye contact, he rushed through my appointment, and he never addressed my issues. Instead, he told me that he thinks I should see him in his new practice- a functional practice he is now running out of the same office and one that will not take my insurance and where I would be expected to pay out of pocket! I was dumbfounded as it seemed his service provided to his insurance paying patients had changed without any notice. I left… my appointment in tears! His nurses felt so badly for me and understood my frustration with the situation- turns out he had a new functional medicine client directly following my appointment! Not only did I wait over 1 hour for my appointment to begin but then I had only 10mins. for my appointment (a physical!). * A few days later I brought my frustration to the attention of both Dr. Hartman and his office manager. Their responses were worlds apart. The office manager understood my frustration and agreed with my solution to email all of Dr. Hartman's existing primary care patients to inform them of his change in service delivery (strict standard of care per insurance) and that if they wanted, they could pay out of pocket for his new functional clinic. At least then it would be up to the patient how to proceed. Dr. Hartman however said that he has every right to make as much as he can and that carrying his own supplements is within his bounds and that providing standard of care only was also his right. I told him while all that is certainly up to him, that changing without informing his patients is not good practice. He said an email would not go out and it hasn't shown up on my portal messages. He came across as quite arrogant. Do your research! Know that he is making money off of his recommendations to you. Be aware.

After seeing Hartman for 8 months for an already diagnosed condition all he has done is prescribe massive amts. of his recommended vitamins, hormones, and herbals. My condition is rapidly deteriorating and so he stopped about half the vitamins. My insurance doesn't cover him as specialist so I knew this would be costly. He makes no eye contact as he always reads his computer. I'm not sure he'd recognize me in his waiting room. I'm ready to cut my losses.

Love my Doctor, he listen and patience with you.

Dr. Hartman wasn't the physician and his group (which is not a apart of Bon Secours) was not the one named in the review. This is a reminder that reviews are only as good as the people writting them.

He has given me his time and attention during each visit. Gave me solid advice that solved my problems. Referrals when needed. I am glad I have met him.

I've seen several different physicians in the local area and Dr. Hartman is by far the most knowledgable and caring. He addressed all my issues and is up to date on all the latest medical issues. I'd recommend him and the practice without hesitancy.
