Hackensack published a recent article on Dr. Al-khan and his team saving the uterus of Marlene Tawadros. I think this article is extremely insensitive and misleading. As a former patient of Dr. Al-khan, I, too, had placenta accreta. He DID NOT save my uterus. Fortunately, I am not plagued by the cultural stigmas as described in the story about Marlene. I am a woman and disgusted that he makes an extra effort to save the uterus of a woman who might be belittled in her culture for losing her uterus. There a lot of women who go to Dr. Al khan for placenta accreta, and the majority lose their uterus. There should be more sensitivity placed on us, as we do lose a major part of our identity and womanhood due to this horrific disease. This should be clearly depicted in these "miracle worker" articles that are published. Since, he does not save every woman's uterus.

Hackensack continues to publish articles on Dr. Al Khan and his team and how they are able save a woman's uterus if plagued with placenta accreta. As a previous patient of his, I can tell you first hand that this is the exception and not the rule. I had placenta accreta, and yes, he removed my placenta and uterus. He did not save my uterus. The article really struck a chord after reading, since it tends to emphasize the 1 or 2 people who are lucky enough to have their uterus spared. For the vast majority, however, they will end up losing their uterus to this horrible disease. Dr. Al-khan may make an exception for a few women who have cultural stigmas if the uterus is removed. You should not be insensitive to those women who may not have the cultural stigma, but, nonetheless grieve the loss of a huge part of their identity. Regardless of the cultural implications, the removal of a woman's uterus is emotionally devastating and has a long term impact on a woman's psyche. I wish… Hackensack along with Dr. Al-Khan et al. emphasize that the majority of women who go there will have to have their uterus removed if they have advanced placenta accreta. These women that you right about and highlight in your article DO NOT represent the majority. More care and empathy should be provided to those women who lose a major part of their female identity.

I have never felt so safe and cared for by a doctor until I met Dr. Al Khan. Not only is he an amazing knowledgeable doctor, his bedside manner is what makes a women in such a vulnerable state feel so at ease. His smile and big heart is what helped me through a very difficult pregnancy. We are forever grateful!

Best Doctor ever, I am so honored to call him my doctor, don't know where to start long story. He saved my life 4 years ago and saved my uterus, 2 years later I was pregnant with my son he took care of me, I was so lucky to take me back, no words can explain how grateful we are for his care and his great staff, will never forget what he did for us, may God bless you always Dr. Alkhan

A year ago I had a placenta accreta as a result I lost my daugther at 36wks. I was transferred to Dr. Al Khan at Hackensack from Jersey Shore. I could have not had better care from Dr. Al-Khan and his staff. He saved my life and I could not be more thankful. He was inspiring everyday even during the grimm time he gave me Hope and inspired me to keep going. I was very ill and went septic during all of this. He saved everything during my surgery and has given me a positive outlook for the future. No words can describe how forever and truly greatful I am that he was my doctor.

He and his colleagues took such great care of me during my complicated pregnancy and post-op period. We are forever grateful!

During a consult of my high-risk pregnancy, he seemed very distracted and rushed. He did not make any eye contact and was very curt with his answers. Maybe he was having a bad day???

my experience was negative. during my consult, dr al khan was in a rush for me to leave. I was not really high risk, but he still recommended ultarsounds every 2 weeks ("just because") and said that I should have a C section to save my vagina. i got the impression that he practices old-school and VERY out of date medicine. I think he would benefit from some reading...

Dr. Al-Khan is a phenomenonal doctor. He truly cares for his patients and takes the time to make sure you are going to have the best outcome! He spends time daily with each patient and hears your concerns and addresses them. May God bless him and his staff. Highly recommend him!

Dr Al khan is the best high risk Doctor out there. I would not see anyone else. He has a wonderful balance of kindness and getting the job done He treats his patients with respect and kindness. He truely cares and wants a successful outcome. I 100% trust the decisions he made during my pregnancy. Be saved my baby and has saved hundreds of babies and women. Thank you Dr Al Khan
