Dr. Abhijit Basu, MD

I'm new in town and after doing proper research Dr Basu came highly rated from multiple other offices outside the Holy Cross system by far very well respected excellent bedside manner and caring

Dr. Abhijit Basu is a great surgeon. I was referred to him by my OB/GYN- Dr. Amy Sonnenblick. She said he was the best surgeon to see for the health issue I had, and she was right. Dr. Basu and his staff were friendly and professional. Not only did he promptly review my CT report and get me scheduled for an office visit the next day, but during my visit with him, he was very thorough. He reviewed my scans, did a thorough exam and took plenty of time to explain the findings, my condition/diagnosis, the necessary surgery and answered all my questions. He has a great bedside manner, sense of humor and made me feel completely comfortable. On the day of surgery, once again, he was very thorough to review the details of my condition, explained all the next steps and surgical procedure. Due to hospital restrictions in place for COVID-19, my husband could not wait in the hospital but once surgery was completed, Dr. Basu called him immediately to let him know the outcome of the surgery… and that I was doing well. I am so grateful to Dr. Basu for doing the life-saving surgery I needed and would recommend him to anyone with 100% confidence. Thank you Dr. Basu and staff!!!

My doctor said "he took out my appendix". I later came to believe this man was recommended because they are both Indians. Basu didn't diagnose me, I TOLD HIM what was wrong. I came in with a bilateral inguinal hernia, diagnosed by the Internet, which I was led to believe was easily repaired. His "exam" consisted of him feeling my testicles, and pronouncing them "normal". This, after he called in a nurse to observe. I asked him was the witness necessary, he just said yes. Didn't explain his legal troubles or any other reason. Before I left, he weirdly said he would be glad to fix my hernia, since I was a "right kind of guy". Then, "Or, you can walk out the door and never come back." I should have been scared off by this, but my lack of experience made me hang on. This was my first surgery. I can't say much about the procedure, I was asleep. I made the follow up appt two weeks after surgery. He said the fluid buildup would dissipate by itself (two seromas). I asked… how long, weeks? He just smiled and said "months". I later realized his repair on the left side had FAILED 3 weeks after surgery. The hernia only got bigger. No chance I would return to him, I'd be afraid to let him touch me. Maybe some day I'll let another surgeon cut me, but don't bet on it. To be perfectly fair, the right side (smaller one) repair seems to have held. So far. Also, my wait time was not excessive, and the office staff was reasonably polite and helpful.

He was so good, I'm going back.

Most unprofessional experience I have ever been through in all my years working in medicine. From the moment we walked through the door the staff was curt. You can tell how the staff treats patients comes through on how well they like working for Dr. Basu. He keeps patients waiting for hours and has no respect for patients time unless they have MD after their name. Came into the room very arrogant like any typical surgeon. However, tried to convince me that he is a compasionate Doctor as he demanded an answer as to whether we would be scheduling surgery with him. Advised that he was not going to waste his time if we were "Doctor shopping. Definately not the man I want cutting into any human being. Think twice before considering surgery with this Doctor. I have personally worked for many Doctors in the Holy Cross Group and have NEVER seen them Treat a patient in this manner. A shame that Dr Lescher is in this group with Dr. Basu since I personally know the… Lescher family and went to school with his children.

This review is not letting me post what I need to. Esentially Dr. Basu was very short with me & terminated the exam part way through and told me I could leave his office. I guess Im no allowed to speak during the exam?

I would not recommend him because his bedside manner is terrible. I had surgery and he never followed up with me nor did anyone from his office. I've been in pain since the surgery and when I requested different pain medication he refused and said other patients do not experience the pain I feel. Well everyone is different so that logic doesn't work. He also lumped me in with the demographic that since I'm young I must be an abuser. I am 30 year old professional who is having a difficult time managing the pain from the surgery. He just brushed me to the side and was quite rude about it. He would be the last doctor I would recommend for anything simply because of his lack of professionalism.

Most people expect their doctors to listen and give them the best care possible. To continually ignore your patients complaints to the point their care is being ignored is unconscionable. To accuse your patients on not following your instructions when it their life being affected is selfish. You continually ignored symptoms until the situation was out of control and people suffered. You are a terrible doctor with a horrible bedside manner who shovels people in and out with caring. Absolutely selfish about scheduling patients in a timely manner. You will wait an hour or more for an appointment. The worst thing about you is you think you know more than the technological advances and I would never recommend a patient suffer under your care. Your staff has seen and heard how you talk to patients and they treat people like #$%^. It's time you close your office and retire

I have been a patient of Dr. Basu's for two different medical problems. He is excellent in every respect and I am a nurse of 17 years. So I know all about physicians from the inside. Top notch!

No one that I know looks forward to a colonoscopy. I was referred to Dr. Basu by my own internal medicine doctor, who personally uses Dr. Basu (Dr. Basu is "a doctor's doctor"). My family has a history of polyps. As the Holy Cross nurse wheeled my gurny in, she asked who is doing my colonoscopy. I told her Dr. Basu. She said, "Oh, Dr. Basu misses nothing!" He removed 10 polyps from me. The only "bad" thing about Dr. Basu is that he strongly advises a 2 (not the standard 1) day of colon cleansing to insure a clean view of the colon - which in my case, was probably a good thing.
