Dr. Abigail Allen, MD

Dr. Abigail Allen is a board certified pediatric orthopedic surgeon with almost two decades of experience caring for children with musculoskeletal conditions. She specializes in pediatric trauma and fractures, developmental hip dysplasia, and congenital hand anomalies, and has a broad clinical practice treating orthopedic conditions in patients from infancy through adolescence. Before joining Hospital for Special Surgery, Dr. Allen served as Chief of Pediatric Orthopedic Surgery at the Mount Sinai Health System, where she also directed the Pediatric Orthopedic Clinic. In these roles, she helped lead clinical care, resident education, and research initiatives in pediatric orthopedics. Dr. Allen is an active member of several national and international professional societies, including the Pediatric Orthopaedic Society of North America (POSNA), the Scoliosis Research Society (SRS), and the American Academy of Orthopaedic Surgeons (AAOS). She currently serves as President of the …Pediatric Orthopaedic Club of New York (POCNY) and has held leadership roles within POSNA, including Chair of the Global Courses Committee. She has published widely in peer-reviewed journals and medical textbooks and serves as a reviewer for multiple academic journals. Her global health work has taken her to China, Haiti, and Central America, where she has provided surgical care and training in underserved communities. As both a surgeon and a mother, Dr. Allen's patient care philosophy is rooted in empathy: she treats every patient as if they were her own child. She values clear communication, shared decision-making, and thoughtful, individualized care. Outside of the operating room, Dr. Allen is passionate about staying active�whether training for a triathlon, playing tennis or golf, dancing, or skiing. She enjoys traveling, learning Mandarin Chinese, and spending time with her husband, two children, and their dog. She is proud to call New York City home.
