Dr. Abraham M Ishaaya, MD

The doctor gave me a verbal diagnosis of atypical narcolepsy which turns out is not really a thing. Prescribed an extremely expensive medication which was initially being covered through the VA, however, neglected dimension this facility is no longer associated with the VA and I was then paying for things out of pocket without any notice whatsoever. He was also a no-show for our last telephone appointment.

We came here because of sleep disturbance that were quite traumatizing causing many problems. Dr Abraham markets as a “Sleep Doctor”. To me, he seemed quite uninterested in our case of terrible insomnia while needing so much medication just to fall and stay asleep. He referred us to Cognitive Behavioral Therapy, of which he had no recommending practice for. We thought, since he is/was well versed in sleep problems, he would at least request for us to follow up with him to see if there had been any improvement. Unfortunately, the appointment was a dissapointment as he gave us information we found readily available on the web months prior to the appointment. His staff, on the other hand, was very nice. I had a persistent and productive cough. The correct treatment would have been to send me to Quest to spit in a cup. The analysis of the phlegm would have shown I had a lung infection which could be cured with antibiotics. Instead, I had an appointment with Abraham Ishaaya who - Sent me for a CT scan, after which he told me I had severe hazing, and either aspergillosis or micobacterium avium. Both of these diseases are serious and with no sure cure. He told me I would need a biopsy so he could find out which disease it was. He performed a bronchoscopy which involved a hospital visit and GENERAL ANAESTHETIC. Needless to say, his fee for this procedure was high. After getting the first results, Ishaaya said I had an inflammation and would need steroids for three months. When he had the next results, he told me I had penicillium (a rare disease usually found in rats in Vietnam) and prescribed strong anti-fungal medicine. When my condition didn't improve, he said I would need another and… more invasive biopsy. At this point, I went for a second opinion. The second doctor read the same results that Ishaaya had read and said I did not, and had never had, penicillium. What I did have was a lung infection. I was told to stop taking the anti-fungal medication immediately and was prescribed antibiotics. My condition improved daily and I was cured in two weeks. When I contacted Ishaaya to ask him why he hadn't told me I had this infection, he said he didn't think it was important. Perhaps he also doesn't think it's important to listen to his patients' breathing, as he never did with me. In fact, I never once saw him with a stethoscope and I am extremely perplexed by the number of positive reviews on this page. I requested a copy of my records (which confirmed all of the above) and submitted a report to the Medical Board. They did not uphold my complaint but at least there's now a paper trail. I can't be the only one he's done this

I'm very satisfied with Dr. Avi's services, he always listens to my description of symptoms and explains my options. I didn't feel rushed at all, he took the time to make sure my concerns were addressed. Office staff is very personable, as well.

The staff, and Dr. Ishaaya, were all very friendly and professional. They answered all questions and concerns.

I really enjoyed all the art on the walls and nature effect or zen feeling. A variety of magazines were available. I enjoying seeing that they remembered me name on my follow visit.

Very, very positive experience. The equipment is better than what I had been using and I now sleep better and feel more rested. The follow up has been good as well. I will recommend Dr. Avi to my sleep apnea friends!

I think Dr. Avi is one of the greatest physicians in the US. He helped me loose a life threatning amount of weight, fixed my sleeping issues and left me a changed man. I owe my life to this Dr. and hope a few more people read this and realize there is still hope.
