Reading some of the other reviews, some people seem to think psichiatrists can cure mental illnesses. Dr K. is not a pill pusher by any means. In fact, he actually pushes general health more than anything. He is very educated and informed on medications and current medical practices. There is no hesitation to prescribe if he feels that it's the right approach to treatment, but he strongly encourages overall health first and foremost. If you are educated in the chemistry, pick his brain. I try to every time I go in, and today we even had a discussion on how different omega-3 brands actually breakdown, which brands have what structure down to the triglycerides an molecular composition yada yada. "Remember in organic chemistry how _____?" (I said yes, but in reality the only thing i remember is falling asleep in lecture), he breaks things down into things that make sense, but I'd imagine most patients don't ask about this kind of stuff. POINT BEING, he knows his stuff. Speaking of which,… I have yet to leave his office without having a discussion about fish oils and eliminating gluten from my diet. Keep in mind, I went into his office for a refill and checkup on my ADHD. He's open to trying new approaches towards your treatment if you're not satisfied with your current medication, but is never irresponsible in prescribing. Before, when I told him that I didn't feel like my medication was fully effective, he asked me about my diet and regime BEFORE even mentioning dosage adjustments and alternative medications. The next month I simply drank more water, made my diet ever-so-slightly healthier, and guess what? It made all the difference in the world. Hopefully this gives you an idea of how he ACTUALLY runs his practice.
His assistant is very nice and helpful. She even calls days before my appointment, and the day before to remind me, which thank God because otherwise I'd forget. If your appointment was late, there can be many reasons why. He is always 100% prepared for our sessions, so he probably takes incredibly detailed notes and listens carefully. If your appointment was late, it's probably because of people like me who show up late (I'M SORRY!!), offsetting his schedule, but I'm always given the entire appointment time, never rushed, always thorough. Even when I'm on time, I've never had to wait more than a few paragraphs of a magazine article. If your appointment is late, rest assured that it's because he is giving his pior patient the full attention they need, the same that he'll give to you.
Please disregard any of the negative comments given about his practice. Difficult people will always be difficult, you know? I'm not the type to write reviews, but I looked up his office because I lost the reminder card already (oops) and came across this site. People usually only write reviews if they had a bad experience, like to cause problems, or are ecstatic with their experience. Nobody is usually overwhelmingly happy to go and see a psichiatrist (this isn't a restaurant, you know) so there is no need to write a review. Rest assured, Dr K. runs an ethical, helpful, and pleasant practice and I can highly recommend him. I can only compare him to my previous psychiatrists in other states, but that's good because I haven't found the need to go elsewhere. He's been the most helpful and enthusiastic doctor I've experienced. He's surprisingly fun to talk to, and always has a smile on his face (which I find strange, I don't see too many genuine smiles out here in Scottsdale). If his non-fancy website led you to this review (that's how I got here), don't be alarmed. I'm just hoping that my review helps somebody looking for information about his practice moreso than other reviews blaming their family member's illnesses on his treatment. (note: their family members, they themselves have no contact with Dr K.)
Hope this helps!
