Dr. Adam Owens

I had high hopes for Durango Primary Care, but my experience was disappointing. The clinic’s location is hard to find, especially if you’re not driving—it’s inside a parking garage with poor signage, making it challenging for pedestrians or cyclists. I was five minutes late because of this, and the receptionist made me wait an additional 15 minutes. Later, my provider, Mindy, commented that I was “20 minutes late,” which felt unfair. After the appointment, I didn’t receive a clear diagnosis or treatment plan because we needed bloodwork first, and getting these simple tests turned into a major hassle. They addressed 2 of my 3 concerns, but failed to follow through efficiently -- sending me to an external lab for blood tests that could have been done in-house, causing unnecessary delays. When I returned to their clinic for the tests a few days later, and asked the assistant -- who was new and clearly struggling -- to confirm the procedures, she became visibly nervous and stepped… away abruptly. When my doctor intervened, it turned out she had accidentally deleted the order, requiring my doctor to redo the request. Additionally, when I inquired about reauthorization forms my pharmacy had faxed, my doctor claimed they never received them and seemed annoyed. When I asked for advice on getting my prescription refilled promptly, she remarked, “Well, first off, I wouldn’t have let it run out,” which was hurtful. Overall, the lack of clear communication and inefficient processes made for a frustrating experience.

I have been using Dr. Owens as my PCP for many years now. He has played an integral part in improving and maintaining my health. The entire staff has treated me well and I have never had any issues. I have recommended Dr. Owens and Mercy Family Medicine to numerous people because of the exceptional service that I have received. Thanks to the entire staff for a job well done!

This was my third visit with Dr. Owens. The Durango office staff was most accommodating, arranging a same-day appointment in the Bayfield Office. Dr. Owens listened most attentively and empathetically to my symptoms and confidently made a diagnosis. The office staff has been persevering and diligent in helping to get my prescriptions filled in all my visits.

I went to see Dr. Owens with stuffy nose and he got to the bottom of my trouble within minutes - a sinus infection. He gave me the treatment options and was very thoughtful in prescribing a solution. Also, I took my 1 year old daughter to him when she stuck a toy up her nose. He was incredibly caring and helpful with my daughter - and had the toy out in less than a minute. I highly recommend Dr. Owens, he is our family doctor.

Blows off requests for RX refills. Once, for even 3 weeks. Blows off requests to contact me and/or spouse. At this point, we're so fed up with his incompetency and nonexistent compassion and refusal to even discuss any issues we've had with him and staff, we've given up on finding any compassionate/excellent medical staff in Durango, and we feel like we're forced to settle for less. Pharmacies comment on his lack of professionalism. Angry little guy.
