Dr. Adam T Thorp IV, MD

Dr. Thorp was raised in the Washington, DC area but descends from a long line of physicians in Eastern North Carolina. His grandfather practiced obstetrics in Nash County starting in the 1920s and two uncles also practiced in Rocky Mount for many years. Dr. Thorp attended college at the University of North Carolina where he graduated Phi Beta Kappa. He attended medical school at George Washington University where he graduated with distinction. He was also inducted into Alpha Omega Alpha Honor Medical Society. Having attended medical school on a Navy Scholarship, Dr. Thorp did his training in orthopedic surgery at Naval Hospital, San Diego. He served a total of nine years in the Navy in San Diego and Philadelphia, but also aboard ship and in Saudi Arabia during Desert Storm. Dr. Thorp practices all facets of orthopedic surgery with emphasis on knees, shoulders, and sports medicine. He also performs fracture care and joint replacement, including MAKO robotic partial knee replacement. He …has served as team physician for a variety of high schools, Barton College, and the Wilson Tobs, over the last 20 years. In his spare time, Dr. Thorp enjoys sports and travel. He and his wife Kay have been married over 25 years. Their son, Mike, is currently a medical student at the University of North Carolina.
