Summary
About Adam Tyler
“In high school, if someone told me that I would go to college, get two degrees, and my job was going to be helping people feel better, I would have laughed them out of the room,” says Adam Tyler, FNP. But when Human Anatomy and Physiology became his best subjects, it just made sense. He went on to become a nurse but wondered about the “why?” behind all the “cool” things he was doing. “Now I'm a Nurse Practitioner and I know some of the "why?" and can do the cool things, too!”
Adam earned his Bachelor of Science in Nursing at Indiana Wesleyan University and his Master of Science in Nursing at Indiana University South Bend.
He describes what he does as helping and healing people. Adam believes being real and honest with patients is key to building trust. He sees better outcomes come from working together with the patient.
“I might be an expert at knowing the medicine side of the problem the patient is being seen for, but they are the expert of the symptoms they live …with daily,” he says.
“I love how helping patients get to treatment goal or resolution of symptoms changes their life.”
In his own words…
Who is or was the most influential people/role models in your life? My wife, Hillary. She is stronger than most give her credit for.
What was your first job growing up? What do you remember about it? I started working when I was 11. My dad was part owner of a small business. I learned how to work hard and how to see a problem and make it go away.
What is your favorite food? I love a good thin crust pepperoni/bacon pizza.
What was your best/worst subjects in school? Geometry was the worst; anatomy and physiology the best
If you could sit down to dinner with anyone (alive or deceased) who would it be and why? Probably my 17-year-old self. Smack myself upside the head and tell myself that medicine is going to make me crazy! If I'm going to do it then cut out everything, skip nursing entirely and go to med school!
In addition to medicine, what are you passionate about? I love Jesus, I'm a dad, I'm a mega nerd, I'm a musician, I'm a tinkerer, I really want to garden but I'm terrible at it.
What are your hobbies, interests? Really appreciating the old stuff. Music and old guitars, bass especially.
Do you have pets? We have Phoebe the cat, Teddy the cat, and Agnes the dog.
What is something most people don’t know about you? I think the concept of a tabletop role-playing game is really cool. But I've never had enough nerdy friends to play.
