Dr. Adil Mohamed Roomi, MD

After experiencing severe diarrhea for over a week, which was especially concerning given my prior gastrointestinal history, my ENT specialist explicitly instructed me to go to the ER for evaluation and testing for a possible infection. Despite presenting with clear symptoms and relevant risk factors, Dr. Adil Roomi refused to order a stool test, stating that I did not have a fever. That reasoning is medically incorrect. C. difficile is diagnosed based on persistent diarrhea, recent antibiotic use, and patient risk factors. A fever is not required. What followed was not a difference in medical judgment. It was a failure to follow basic clinical standards. A high-risk clinical scenario was ignored. Clear and well-documented symptoms were dismissed. A simple, appropriate diagnostic test was refused. Diagnosis and treatment were delayed as a direct result. Two days later, I tested positive for the infection. Four days after that, I was back in the ER at Pascack Valley Medical Center… because the initial medication I was given was not appropriate and would not resolve the infection. During that visit, the attending ER physician confirmed that a fever is not required for a C. difficile diagnosis. I was also told that if I had presented with a fever, it would have indicated a more severe condition, such as possible sepsis, and I likely would have been admitted immediately for intensive treatment. In other words, the justification used to deny testing was not only incorrect, it reflected a misunderstanding of how serious the condition could become. This was a clear deviation from the standard of care that resulted in delayed diagnosis, delayed treatment, and a worsening of my condition. Equally concerning was Dr. Adil Roomi’s conduct. Throughout the encounter, he repeatedly questioned and dismissed the clinical judgment of my ENT specialist in a way that was both unprofessional and inappropriate. My ENT is not a marginal provider. He is a highly credentialed, nationally recognized specialist with multiple patents on surgical tools used internationally. He has been recognized by Castle Connolly among the top 7% of physicians nationwide for over 20 years and was named in the top 1% of America’s Most Honored Doctors in 2023. This was not a disagreement between peers. This was the dismissal of a highly qualified specialist’s medically sound concern, which ultimately proved to be correct. Patients go to the ER expecting physicians to recognize risk, act on clear symptoms, and collaborate appropriately with other providers. In this case, none of that happened. The result was a preventable delay in care and an avoidable second ER visit.

I visited Virtua Camden ER on April 16, 2025, in severe pain due to multiple chronic conditions, including Ehlers-Danlos Syndrome and nerve-related symptoms. Dr. Roomi not only dismissed my pain, but conducted an invasive rectal exam without asking for consent—and did so in front of family members. This was degrading, inappropriate, and retraumatizing. I clearly stated that I was bleeding and had previously tried suppositories without relief. He ignored this, refused to administer an IV despite visible distress, and instead prescribed Naproxen (an NSAID, which is contraindicated for bleeding). I was rushed in and out in under an hour with no follow-up and worsening symptoms afterward. I’ve filed formal complaints due to the level of neglect, disregard for informed consent, and bias shown toward my disability. If you are medically complex, chronically ill, or require trauma-informed care, I urge you to avoid this provider.
