Why I chose to pursue a career in healthcare:Medicine was a calling for me. I enjoy the science, discovering the whys and hows of biology. I enjoy the art of finding a diagnosis and treatment strategy. I enjoy the humanity of treating a whole patient through an illness and beyond back to health. Medicine is a wonderful blend of the objectivity of science and the subjectivity of humanity. I enjoy working with my patients to find a path forward.What I want my patients to know about me:I am originally from California, but came out East for school and training. I have stayed because I enjoy the environment and the people. I want to help my patients find their heart-healthy lifestyle.What I do when I'm not seeing patients:I enjoy the outdoors, hiking, backpacking, and biking. I enjoy watching baseball and most sports. Reading is a favorite pastime for me. I have been learning to knit in the last few years, and am slowly getting better.

Dr. Topic prescribed a statin to lower my cholesterol which gave me muscle pain. She explained why she thought I needed the statin but she ultimately left the choice to me. I feel I can trust her for giving me all the information about my health but understanding living with the side effects is hard. She is very easy to talk to and I find that is the most important part of the doctor-patient relationship.
