Dr. A. Sahir Saleem, MD

I was Dr Saleem's patient for 3.5 years. I'm a type 2 diabetic and was very naive about my condition, so I trusted my PCP, Dr Saleem, to manage and guide that care. This was a terrible mistake. My A1C was in the low 7's when I became his patient. It only went up. My last A1C as his patient was 10.8. For the last year as his patient, I had been begging him to prescribe insulin. I rarely saw bloodsugar levels below 200, fasting or not. He always refused. I will never understand why. At the end of each visit, he would say the same thing: "Your numbers are a little bit high, we need to get these numbers down. Keep doing what you're doing." Yeah. Contradictory. I now have a chart of my recorded blood pressure for every visit to his office while I was his patient. BP at my first visit was 140/88. At the next visit: 146/90. Only once was my BP close to being in range at 126/81. At each visit, if he mentioned BP at all, he would say it was just a little high and never once suggested… medication. Even with blood pressure recorded at 174/102, my BP wasn't even rechecked. I had to ask him what my BP reading was when he came in for the visit (nurse takes vitals). He hadn’t even looked, and I feel that he wouldn’t have if I hadn’t mentioned it. I felt confused and so out of sorts and was at or near a hypertensive crisis. Still no medication, even with enough info for a clear diagnosis of hypertension. At my next visit, with BP recorded at 163/102, I demanded medication. "It's a little high. We can put a little medication if you want". After 3 years (at least) with documented hypertension and uncontrolled Type 2 diabetes, documented in HIS OFFICE, he finally addressed my blood pressure, and then only when I demanded treatment. It is standard guidance to very carefully monitor diabetics for blood pressure problems, as high BP leads to kidney disease. Mine went unchecked for at least 3 years. During the last year of my "care" under Saleem, my vision degraded severely, which is permanent. My neuropathy (totally unaddressed by Saleem, never mentioned at all) has progressed to where I can barely feel my feet, unless they're throbbing and on fire. This is not a bitter diatribe against a doctor for some trivial reason. My body has permanently degraded as a result of Dr Saleem's extreme negligence. I placed my trust in him to help me manage my diabetes. Again and again, he refused to address out of control blood sugar, out of control blood pressure and out of control cholesterol. After ONE visit to an Endocrinologist, I was prescribed insulin, BP medication and meds for cholesterol. AVOID this negligent “doctor”.
