Dr. Ahmed M Abdelsalam, MD

 Dr. Ahmed Abdelsalam is an entrepreneur, physician, and eye surgeon who specializes in vitreoretinal surgery.  He is the founder & President of Chicagoland Retinal Consultants, DeKalb Eye Consultants, DeKalb Optical Shops, DeKalb Surgical Services, DeKalb Hearing Services, and the President of Illinois Eye. He is the Chairman of the Medical Executive Committee, the Physician Advisory Board, and the Chief Medical Officer of EyeCare Services Partners. A graduate of Alexandria Medical School in Alexandria, Egypt with “High Honors”, he completed his Internal Medicine training at the Robert Wood Johnson Medical School in New Jersey and his residency in Ophthalmology at the Institute of Ophthalmology & Visual Sciences of UMDNJ-New Jersey Medical School. He completed his fellowship in Vitreoretinal Surgery at Kresge Eye Institute in Michigan. He is licensed to practice Medicine & Surgery in 16 states Including Texas, California, Florida, New York, Michigan, and …Illinois, and has an unrestricted license to practice Medicine & Surgery in Egypt. 

Dr. Abdelsalam is board certified by both the American Board of Ophthalmology (through 2031) and the American Board of Internal Medicine (through 2006). He is a Fellow of the American College of Surgeons, a Fellow of the American Academy of Ophthalmology, a Fellow of the American Society of Retina Specialists, a member of the European Vitreoretinal Society, the Asian Pacific Vitreoretinal Society, and the Pan American Academy of Ophthalmology & Vitreoretinal Society. He is a member of the Chicago Ophthalmological Society and the Illinois Association of Ophthalmology. 

He has been listed multiple times in Chicago’s Top Doctors, America’s Best Physicians, USA Top Vitreo-Retinal Surgeons and is a recipient of the AAO “LEO Award” for a life-long commitment to Education in Ophthalmology & Visual Sciences. Dr. Abdelsalam is the founder of the nonprofit Chicago Eye & Retina Foundation and the founder of the Chicagoland Midwest Retina Update. He is a co-founder of the Arab African Society of Retina Specialists and an organizer of the International Cairo Retina Meeting. He is a frequent organizer, presenter, and moderator at many national and international conferences.

Dr. Abdelsalam is a former Andersen Consultant as well. Dr. Abdelsalam currently lives and practices in Chicago. Besides his clinical and business duties Dr. Abdelsalam enjoys spending time and traveling with his family, reading, jazz & classical music, bird watching, nature photography, deep-sea fishing and scuba diving, soccer, basketball, racing, and cooking.
