Dr. Akaber Moufid Halawi, MD

I saw the ENT Doctor when she worked at UF. Let me say that she was not helpful at all. I am a lay person. I was under the impression that there could only be a few things wrong when it came to sinusitis. I could not be further One was that it could be a bacterial infection. Two is that it could be a fungal infection. Three is that it could be an allergic reaction. I did not know about autoimmune diseases. I advised the this doctor that I had tried numerous antibiotics but my nose was still bothering me. In fact, I was in great pain and the pain had transferred to my throat area. I also advised her that they had swabbed my nose and no bacteria had been found but the pain was still there and my nose was swollen and red. This doctor's response was that there was nothing wrong with my nose. She looked at my nose dismissively, which was very swollen and red, and told me nothing was wrong. She likewise looked at my throat and wrongly concluded that there was nothing in my throat. Her… observation skills as a doctor could not have been more faulty because if she had more training or skill she would have seen the Pemphigus Vulgaris blisters on the left side of my throat and in my nose. Pemphigus vulgaris is an autoimmune disease. It is not bacteria or fungus or a typical allergy so that is the reason I did not test positive for bacteria. If I did not go the Baptist Infectious Disease and have the doctor there give me a blood test to reveal my autoimmune condition I could be dead by now because Pemphigus is fatal unless treated. This review is a warning about this ENT.

Dr. Halawi is an excellent physician. She cares deeply for her patients. She educated me about my treatment options and took the extra time to listen to all of my issues. She's an outstanding doctor, that's why my wife and I keep coming back to UF.

Dr. Halawi is a caring doctor. She explained everything and always looks to you eye to eye. She is not one of those providers that just look at a computer. She is very professional and has excellent bedside manners. I could not have asked for a better doctor. I am disappointed that she will be leaving UF.

I've never had a Doctor explain things better than Dr. Halawi. She explained all parts of my condition as well as educating me on how medicines affect you.

She was amazing. She took time to explain everything so I understood. After 8 months of run around, it was great to finally see a Dr. That cared and got treatment started right away.

Dr Halawi leaves no stone unturned when trying to find the best option for care

Gave lots of options but I felt kept wanting me to choose surgery vs me choosing noninvasive option 1st. If 1st option doesn't work then will consider other options
