My ten year old had a large deep incision on the back of his hand. She started numbing up the area without cleaning the area and assessing pain. He was squirming and crying and I asked if she could please give him something for pain and clean the area before she continues to inject more lidocaine around the large incision. The only thing she had at the bedside was a suture kit. She said it wasn't necessary. At this point I asked for another provider. Akwa found a und resident to take over and akwa falsified her documents saying that patient appeared comfortable the whole time and she cleaned and flushed area thoroughly which she didn't. Her assessment of the damage was wrong and neither she nor other physician noticed that he was unable to move his thumb. After we were discharged from the ER, we went to a hand specialist and my son ended up having a 2 hour surgery where they cleaned out debris and glass, fixed tendons, and repaired a nerve by the base of the thumb. Hand surgeon was… very displeased as to how patient was treated in the ER and the lack of knowledge of akwa and other UND resident had at assessing motor function in the hand. She made an already unpleasant situation worse by not observing patients needs or mother request.. she was very unprofessional. I would recommend refusing her as a provider and asking for another provider to care for me or a loved one, one hundred times over!!!
