Dr. Alan Mark Berg, MD

If you need care this is one of the most intelligent Drs in the UPMC health system. He is a caring Dr but will not abide with you not doing what he has recommended, his primary goal is to make you well. Personally I thank God to have him for my doctor. I wouldn't be alive today if not for his excellent care.

The absolute weirdest appointment I ever wasted a co-pay on. I should have demanded it back. It is evident he has mental issues that need addressed.

My PCP sent me to see Dr Berg to do due diligence on my Lyme’s disease diagnosis. He walked into the exam room and asked me why I was there. I explained my seven symptoms including facial paralysis, some neurological impairment, extreme fatigue and random moving joint pain which he zeroed in on. Pushing both my hips, he asked if they hurt and I said they do at this moment but did not when I arrived for my appointment. He backed away, declared I had bursitis, gave me a sheet of exercises and before I could say what about all my other symptoms, he left! I would NEVER see this man again for any medical issue. And it turned out I did have Lyme’s. He was not smart enough to know my illness was above he pay grade.

Dr. Berg was very informative and helpful with my ongoing condition. I am brand new to him but, found him patient and caring. He seems like he honestly wants to help me find out what's going on with my illness and help me manage it. I am looking forward to working with him and I feel that I can trust him at this point.We will see...

Don’t waste your time with this guy. Worst Dr we’ve ever seen. He was so rude to my husband with MS who was having trouble getting his words out. We were really hoping for answers, but were dismissed. He tried to attribute abnormal X-rays and blood work along with red, painful, swollen joints on sleep apnea.

I saw the Doc yesterday for an acute onset of joint pain which is affecting my life to the point that I had decided to see a specialist. I am not a huge fan of any doctors or any medical institution after the many years I've worked in the field so have seen both sides. Dr Berg had an issue with a physicians decision to put me on thyroid meds for a very borderline blood test result. He advised me against continuing a life long drug that he felt was not warranted. I respect any person let alone doctor who will break the golden rule of not interceding and changing another persons recommendations. His bedside manner is definitely different, but I have never been concerned with coddling . What concerns me is expertise and a doctor who relies as much on his gut instinct as he does written theory. I will choose to see this man again.

Hands down the worst doctor I have every seen. Rude is an understatement. Condescending, cruel and dismissive. Didn't listen to a word I said, and obviously didn't care in the least what I was suffering. Luckily I have a great rheumatologist now who diagnosed me with the disease I knew I had based on all my symptoms. Berg doesn't deserve to hold a medical license.

He asked a lot of questions and went the extra mile

I have discussed my back pain with Dr. Berg on numerous occasions. He is not quick to dole out pain killers, and instead prefers to try natural remedies. He is blunt and to the point, not trying to sugar coat his explanations, and I find this great. All too often I have seen doctors who are great at smiling and taking my money while not giving me the straight up and up. I recommend Dr. Berg to anyone who wants a straight answer...

I went to Dr. Alan Berg for a second opinion since typically I've received excellent care from UPMC physicians. He was belligerent and rude, asking me why I was seeing him instead of the other physician. He told me, without doing any further testing, that my fatigue was due to sleep apnea. When I expressed my doubts about his diagnosis lacking many of the typical symptoms, he replied, "Rare things are rare." When I pressed further he said, "If it is not due to apnea, it is due to you being morbidly obese." I've since seen another physician that disputes his DX.
