Dr. Alan George Dowd, MD

I have to wonder how anyone who works in this office can live with themselves, what a sham of a medical practice. if you CARE ABOUT YOUR HEALTH, DON'T GO THERE!!

Dr. Dowd is wonderful. He reminds me of the way physicians used to be before they became greedy and exceedingly arrogant. He is also one of the few doctors in the area still accepting new patients since Obamacare.He has a gentile way that sets one at ease and listens. Since he is British, his mannerisms may strike some as being a little cold. He takes what information given and recommends the correct tests so he can make an intelligent diagnosis. I am quite pleased with him thus far.As for his staff, I have to agree with the previous poster. Both were rude and condescending. Both reminded me of women that work at the Department of Motor Vehicles. They act as though they do not want to be there and are doing you a favor. The nurse refused to tell me what my blood pressure was except to say, Youre not going to fall over dead. When I asked Dr. Dowd, I was shocked at how high it was. It was obvious she had made an error, because he took it twice to make sure. Her numbers were… considerably higher than my normal. The receptionist must be a relative since she, too, is British. She became irked when I explained that the doctor wanted me to have blood work done that day; I explained I had fasted since the previous day. Her response was, You mean to tell me you havent eaten in 22 hours? It was obvious from her attitude that she did not believe me. Furthermore, she interrupted the doctor as he was seeing another patient to confirm that I was to have blood work done. In addition, she had no idea what my co-pay was, nor was she willing to find out. I had never used my benefit up to that point, so I did not know. She once again spoke down to me as though I were a child.If one can ignore the staff, one will find a wonderful physician in Dr. Dowd. I will continue to use him as my doctor as long as my patience holds out. His staff is what hurts his practice.

I think the title is fairly explanatory. Dr. Dowd is nice but his support staff is lacking. If it gets to a point in your career where you cant be nice to those who pay to be seen - then its time to retire.

Dr. Dowd is an excellent physician. He has been our family doctor for 30 years and we wouldn't think of going to anyone else. He encourages his patients to ask questions and he always takes the time to explain things in a manner that is easy to understand. When our son was a child Dr Dowd even made a point of addressing his concerns as well, never talking down to him in spite of his young age. A few years after we first started seeing Dr Dowd my husband was laid off for several months and we were without insurance. Dr Dowd made a point of stressing to us that his office would work with us and we were to continue to come in as needed. His staff is professional, courteous, and friendly. I can't possibly say enough good things about these people.
