Dr. Alan Lee Froehling, MD

As a professional patient I have had multiple surgeries during my lifetime and have learned to be cautiously selective when it comes to my health care providers. Dr. Froehling is a one in a million doctor and I was quite fortunate to have him recently perform my total knee replacement surgery in addition to other orthropedic surgeries in years past. My health care concerns require a physician that is able to comfortably think outside of the box so as to accommodate the unique complications that I have. Not all doctors can discern the need to treat the comfort level of the patient before implementing a treatment plan to make surgery less daunting. This is where doctor Froehling excelled. Furthermore, he was patient and willing to educate me so that we could work together in caring for my issues. I applaud his medical knowledge and instinct. Doctor Froehling has truly earned his stripes, not only as a gifted surgeon but also as a friendly and caring person. Kudos to him and his staff… for the exceptional services rendered.

Back in 1986 I suffered a nasty back injury while attending SIU. Three days passed before I was rushed to Good Sam. The injury had manifested into complete paralysis below the waist with full blow cauda equina syndrone. Extensive damage had already occurred. Dr. Froehling saved my life in the operating room and gave me a life with his encouragement post op. He told me that "a smart man learns to adapt quickly". I understood his words as a survival skill. He also provided resources of what I would call a hypnotherapy, listening to tapes on controlling my body and pain through my mind and vise versa. Dr Froehling gave me hope and encouraged me to finish college and not settle for a life of disability. I slowly regained the ability to walk and function. I have used his words to carry me through difficult times and to reinvent myself when necessary. It took a long time but I finished school, married and have enjoyed a career as an engineer. I am very grateful for Dr Froehling's… healing skills and inspiration.

I would have to side with the first reviewer, he's a terrible doctor. I seen him about a year and a half ago and he just told me I had normal wear & tear on my knee. And that there was nothing he could do for me and he acted as if he was better than me. I think this is due to me also having other health issues. It's as if it makes him feel more of a person than he really is. So, with that said I wouldn't refer ANYONE to him ! Btw I was looking for a new Dr. is how I ran across this site & didn't want ANYONE else to have a terrible experience !

I would not recommend a person off the street to see this Dr.! My sister & I both had slim choices to see him due to insurance purposes. He barely made time in his office to answer her questions, then after her surgery couldn't even meet our family in the privacy of the conference room to discuss how her surgery went -instead he had to meet us in the hallway with his briefcase on his way to play golf! Our questions were a nuisance for him since he couldn't get down the hallway fast enough. My appt. With him was no less of a nightmare. My primary Dr sent me to him for a 2nd opinion of a nerve conduction test & MRI that came back with some lower discs pinching nerves. As soon as he found out I suffer from other diseases, this Dr became very slanderous of my other Dr 's ; he degraded me about my medical treatments & accused me of improperly taking my medications! This Dr had never seen me or treated me for any of my multiple diseases to which my other three Dr 's have finally got me… stable! He continued to mock me until I was in tears. I cried the whole drive home. Noone needs to subject themselves to this man.
