Summary
Welcome to my professional Web page. 2008 marks my 17th year as an endocrinologist with Kaiser Permanente at Panorama City. Endocrinologists treat hormonal problems, the most common of which is diabetes, in all of its forms. We also specialize in thyroid problems and calcium and bone problems, as well as many other esoteric disorders.
Biography
I grew up in Michigan. My father was also a physician (although not an endocrinologist). I spent eight years at the University of Michigan in Ann Arbor, an amazing place to go to school. Although I majored in psychology (with a special interest in human consciousness), I took advantage of the great liberal education offered at U of M and took mostly humanities (art history, medieval studies etc). I moved to California for new experiences, and have been here for 20 years now. I have also taken a new interest in natural landscapes (I particularly love oceans and waterfalls) and do a lot of hiking and photography of our amazing natural …surroundings. Photography has become my newest hobby. In my office, you should be able to see some of the results of these three hobbies as they come together. I spend my free time reading nonfiction as well as fantasy and science fiction. Tolkein and Buffy the Vampire Slayer are favorites (as anyone who has seen my office knows).
About my practice
Since diabetes is central to what I do (over half of my time), I work with a fabulous team of dieticians, educators, social workers, and nurses to offer you complete team care. We tend to see the most complicated diabetes cases due to the epidemic of diabetes that has now overtaken the United States. It's important to know that the struggle with weight is shared by many of us, including myself and members of our team. But with smarter choices and by adding activity to our lives, it can be controlled-as can diabetes.
How I thrive
Travel has been my passion since I was a child. I have covered every state in the United States more than once (and plan to do many next year during a sabbatical). Starting when I was three, our family would take month-long vacations all over the U. S.. I have also traveled through much of the world. The thought of my next trip and memories of previous ones help keep me sane. Earlier in my life I was a runner, finishing three marathons, but injuries have taken their toll. Recently I have found the elliptical machine, which is fabulous exercise with much less pounding on my body. I highly recommended this to anyone who can use one. Finally, I am a volunteer for many organizations. Over the years I have chaired multiple groups or events for local arts, environmental and religious groups. This sense of community involvement and passion for what I care about helps me lead a healthy, balanced lifestyle.

Ensuring Data Transparency and Trust: A Guide to Vitals Doctor Listings and Reviews
Our provider data is gathered directly from physicians and publicly available databases. Providers who verify their profiles gain the ability to update information, offering additional details about their specialties, education, treated conditions, performed procedures, and accepted insurances.
Reviews on Vitals are submitted by users only. Recognizing the valuable insights these reviews offer into a doctor's reputation, we maintain internal policies and protocols to ensure the quality and accuracy of all reviews. Importantly, providers cannot delete or alter reviews independently. Reviews can only be deleted or changed following an internal assessment by our customer service team.
Your feedback is highly valued and we encourage you to contact our support team should you encounter any issues.
