Dr. Alan Michael Leff, MD

7 years ago he gave me Oxycodone, Xanax and morphine pills. I’m 5 ft and 97 lbs??? So I became addicted, went into detox , program 2x a week 7 years ago. He sued me for a bill, I had insurance For 2100.00. I could not and did not even know there was court? He won and now he took out a 6000.00 judgement on me. When I tried to talk to the lawyer he said we want the $6000.00 and we will send a Marshall.... nothing I can do unless someone can help?? Oh by the way I am clean and sober 6 years????? Can you believe this???? Thanks for reading if you do???

Dr leff is simply a drug dealer, not a caring compassionate doctor. He don't care about you, he ONLY cares about lining his pockets from the pharmaceutical and insurance companies. Watch yourself around doctor Leff and his staff, you'll be in the ground before long.

My husband has chronic sciatica, mostly due to working hard all his life. He is very interested in beginning a pain management program because he would like to remain able to continue to help support himself & his family instead of collecting disability, a noble endeavor I should think. Dr. Leff's office was recommended to us by another man in my husband's industry, as he (also a family man intent on towing his weight) has been managing chronic pain for well over a decade. Understandably, Dr. Leff is set to retire & isn't taking new patients. Our colleague said he felt reasonably sure that one of the other doctors would take my husband. My husband called & explained his situation to whoever was on the other end. He explained that his ultimate goal would be to be able to receive injections but that he would really appreciate another form of pain management beforehand so he would be able to continue working (within reason of course), as there is a long wait between the initial… consultation & actual treatment of that kind. He explained that, although we don't have insurance we have no problem paying cash upfront for everything; He also mentioned that one of their patients referred us, & he gave that person's name. Her tone completely changed~He asked for an appointment, at which point this woman assumptively told him, "Well this isn't a place to come & get DRUGS", shutting him down then & refusing him the appointment...Was it the "no insurance" thing? Cash, we said, upfront~in advance if necessary...what's the problem? Was it the mention of who had referred us, him being hopelessly addicted to his opiate pain medication? Because that's not our situation, & that's not our problem. Opiates are more than readily available, as well as easy & relatively safe to obtain if an opiate were what we wanted. No one needs a doctor, we all know this. And it's not our problem that people become addicted to their medication. Psych drugs yield a wicked withdrawl, but no one's suspicious of people seeking THOSE because they have next to no street value. A-ha~now we see the heart of the problem~it's ALSO not our problem that people abuse their opiate medications or that people buy & sell their opiate medications & those of others when those medications had been intended to be used by the proper, pain-riddled person. I am sick of legitimate pain patients being pre-judged & spoken to like they're stupid. They are PATIENTS, even if they become addicted to their medications, as are many psychiatric patients to their NON-opiate ones. THEY are the patients, regardless of whatever anyone else does! They should NOT be TREATED according to conjecture as to what someone MIGHT do with medication intended for honest purposes. I resent the response my husband & I got from this facility when we called seeking help. Unfortunately a lot of facilities these days seem to conduct themselves similarly when dealing with this matter. It hasn't stopped us from pursuing pain management further, as we have done nothing wrong, & our intentions are pure. But it is very distressful to someone in pain to have his efforts not only denied, but looked upon with suspicion or assumptive prejudgement. In fact, it is everyone's right to seek relief from any ailment. Someone who doesn't, in my opinion, is not respecting himself, never the other way around, regardless of the social goings-on beyond the control of any individual.

I would recommend Dr. Leff to anyone. I am very fond of him, as is everyone who goes to him. He's compassionate, patient, and knows his stuff.

My mother was one of Dr. Leff's first patients when he opened his Brooklyn office. My mom had horrible back spasms for over 15 years, and went from Dr. to Dr. with no results. Using new procedures, Dr. Leff was the first doctor who was able to alleviate my mother's pain for a significant amount of time. I now have been going to Dr. Leff for my own back problems for over 5 years and I always find him to be knowledgeable, friendly and compassionate. He has helped me greatly to deal with my pain. I always request to be seen by Dr. Leff and on only one occassion was I told I had to see his PA, he always finds time to see me. I have recommended Dr. Leff to quite a few people and they are pleased with his care as well. Yes, the front desk and his wife can be abrassive at times, but it's worth dealing with them, in order to get the first class care I receive from the doctor.

Dr Leff has been my doctor for 16 years and he's great. He has really helped me a lot. I would recommend him to anyone.

Dr. Leff is exceptional. I can see why some people here are angry. I agree his office staff, some but not all, can be horrible, and so his wife. But he is a victim of this I think and I feel bad for him. He is too busy caring for patients and really doesn't seem interested in the business part of it all, or in being an office manager.Also, the doctor performs procedures that no other doctor can do in the whole country and is not afraid of prescribing something out of the ordinary or trying new things. I guess it is different for people with different problems. I don't agree with the commenter who said that they push you to go on narcotics here. I don't take them and never once did they push me to take them. I have been extremely ill for over a decade, and my case if very severe. His procedures have changed my life for the better forever.He is the kindest of docs. Someone here said that he asked the same questions over and over. In my experience he asks me how my problem started and… things like that, often, every few months. I am sure this is because he is brainstorming trying to understand how my pain started to find the answer to the puzzle. If the asks the same question again in the same day, it is obviously because he is thinking about it and wants more details, not because he is confused. Because he is smart.He is the only doc who is not arrogant to think he knows everything about my problem. He asks me and listens to me and treats me like a person. Not like a pain patient. I have been to many pain clinics all over the US and he is the best I have found. He should not be your only doctor though, he is too busy for that.

As many previous comments state, if you want to be treated with respect as a patient deserves to be go to another doctor. I have been seeing Dr. Leff for sometime now and since the beginning I have always encountered an aggrogant and disorganized office staff (including his wife). Their rudeness was tolerable up until the last visit in which, as I was being seen by the doctor his wife banged on the door numerous times, the doctor left me waiting in the room (in which he said he'd be right back), I was removed from the room and told to sit in the waiting area by his wife who spoke to me as if I were garbage, I was then told during my waiting to pay for a drs note which I didnt even ask for, and when I asked if the dr was finished seeing me I was approached with shouts. I was then told to "get out of the office" and then I was handed a letter of dismissal. When I tell you that I was shocked and humiliated by the way in which I was treated, since this all happened in front of other… patients. I was hoping this was a one time event that happened to me, but after reading other reviews apparently its not.

His PA (with zero personality) takes the entire history, rushing me through what was, in my case, a very complicated case. When the doctor himself came in, he seemed confused, asked me the same question over and over, and gave me a terrible and life altering diagnosis with about as little compassion as anyone could muster. His wife kept repeating how wonderful he was and kept offering him suggestions of how he could treat me, although she herself stated she is not a medical professional. I cannot overemphasize how terrible my experience at this office was and I urge anyone who wants any compassion or care whatsoever to go elsewhere.
