Memorial Day 1990, my son (just turned 3yrs old) was bitten by a dog, in the face. It literally ripped his lower eyelid OFF (including the lower tear duct). Three surgeons at Munroe Regional Medical Center (Ocala)refused to even TRY to help him. I drove my son to Shands Hospital, Gainesville, where Dr. Alan Lessner operated on my child, put his eyelid back on, and threaded a tiny tube through his nose, uppper tear duct, and lower tearduct and tied it together to hold it until it healed. My son got out of surgery about 10pm that night, and the next morning, he was happily pushing a truck down the hall of Shand's hospital Pediatric floor, playing happily. There was NO SCAR on my son's face, and the muscles in his face worked properly (they'd been torn), and his tear duct functioned properly. That's several miracles! We have only the HIGHEST PRAISE for Dr. Lessner, and his work. He followed up with my son for many months afterward, making sure everything was ok. He explained… everything to me, and to my son, every step of the way. He was great with my son. My son had the BEST oculoplastic surgeon in the state of Florida, and to this day (21 years later), I am grateful.
