Dr. Alan Robert Levinstone, MD

Dr. Levinstone is one of the most patient friendly family doctors I have ever known in my 83 years. He is open to all conversation, listens attentively, does thorough exams, and explains all diagnoses and prescriptions! When I fell off my ladder during the blizzard of 1966 he was there and got me to the Fairfax Hospital ER and recommended Dr. Naviser to exam my severe injury to my left. After emergency surgery he was there for me again. I could not have asked for a better family doctor! A year later Dr. Levinstone took the time to treat my daughter-in-law from Richmond and found that she had MS, one of his specialities before family practice, and she is living a fruitful life these 23 years later. She gave birth to two healthy grandsons who are now grown are contributing members of society! I would put Dr. Levinstone for the Family Physicians Hall of Fame!!!!!!

In 2011, I visited Dr. Alan Levinstone's office with vague symptoms of tiredness. Many would not have received sufficient care with that kind of vague symptom. But I did. Dr. Levinstone's office was thorough. They did extensive tests, located a problem, and I eventually learned I had amyloidosis, a protein misfolding disease that is treated somewhat like a blood cancer. I received excellent subsequent care from nephrologist, Dr. Musio, who was suggested by Dr. Levinstone's office, and chemo and stem cell replacement at Boston Medical Center. I had a complete response to treatment. I am alive, happy, and healthy in 2019. Deep thanks to Dr. Levinstone and his team for my and my husband's continued good health!

I have been a patient of Dr Levinstone for years and the way he covers the details of my annual physical allows me to leave the appointment with a thorough understanding of what I am doing right and wrong. A great Doctor!!!

I do NOT know this person, but the VA Medical Licensing Board should be looking into these very serious complaints! How could this be allowed in Virginia, if true? The public weal is at stake. Virginia bureaucrats need to do their job and monitor all review sites to help doctors in trouble.

I trusted Doc Levinstone for years. His bedside manner was iffy, but at least I trusted that he cared inasmuch as I was a body he could repair. He sent me for or did tests in office. and actually visited me in a several miles away hospital which was not part of inova. However, a few years later he did change. He seemed to leave patient care to the PA's, and complained about agreements that he made with insurance companies. We parted ways regarding a moral issue on which we disagreed with one another.

He is simply the best.

Worst doctor visit experience I have ever had in my life. It has been more than 10 years since I had the unfortunate experience of being seen by Dr. Levinstone and it still haunts me. To say he is a patronizing, arrogant a$$ would be an understatement. I had heard he didn't believe in ADD, so I was curious to see if he could come up with an alternate diagnosis for my issues and help me overcome them, but I never got the chance to explain that to him since he just saw the word ADD and immediately started belittling and berating me. He had no interest in anything I had to say, he had made up his mind about me before he even met me. Made me cry and blamed it on my anxiety problems. I was a young college student, I trusted doctors and I had never had a doctor treat me that way in my life. I am happy to say that no doctor has treated me anywhere near that badly since. It was an excruciating and traumatizing experience for me. My neighbors had recommended him and told me he was "a little… weird". No, he's just mean. I've always been upset that I let him treat me that way and never got a chance to tell him off, so Dr Levinstone, if you ever read this, I really, really, really hate you!

Very thorough with excellent research on tricky problems and follow ups even on weekends and late nights with personal phone calls at home. Some challenge his bedside manner -- I have never had an issue and find him very caring about his patients. He can be direct, no-nonsense, and he does not believe in a myriad of unnecessary tests or doctors visits - which I appreciate. He has always been spot on with diagnosis for my friends and family. Nurse practitioners are all excellent and I believe the office manager is the best in the business. Highly recommend if you are not looking for a social hour.

Our family has been seeing Dr. Levinstone for 19 years. On any number of occasions he has been spot on handling a family health problem. This included, pneumonia, a kidney stone that supposedly had been zapped, bronchitis, etc. What has been perhaps the most helpful service he has performed is that he is quick to refer us to the appropriate highly skilled specialist: orthopedists, nephrologists, gastroenterologist, urologist.
