Dr. Alan Albert Pollock, MD

Horrible doctor. The first meeting was ok but he didn’t join our second meeting. After not joining our second appointment, the receptionist wanted to book me for 3 months out. Why do I have to wait 3 months if he has the one who didn’t join the appointment. On top of all of this, he made me do a test with stony Brook which now I have to pay out of pocket because my insurance will not cover it. I had to call more than 7 times to his office to be able to obtain a test result. This was months ago and until this day I have not received a call to discuss the test results or what they mean.

I'd like to begin by saying that Dr. Pollock was over the top incredible for my first couple of appointments. He was extremely attentive and thorough, taking his time to listen to and validate my concerns regarding tick borne illness. He made sure to explain what was happening in my body in careful detail and I left feeling like I had hit the lottery in finding a doctor who cared. Unfortunately, during my third appointment (and for reasons unbeknownst to me), a flip appeared to have switched in his demeanor. After mentioning a newer treatment I am undergoing with another provider (for a completely unrelated issue), he made sure to express his condescending disapproval, stating that he is unfamiliar with that treatment. Toward the end of my appointment, I kindly came back to the issue asking if he had any alternative suggestions to which he offered no tangible solution. Additionally, he patronized me for other medical decisions (completely unrelated to tick borne illness) which I’ve… made for myself. After traveling over two hours to see this doctor, I left feeling extremely disappointed, humiliated and patronized to say the least.

He is an excellent listener. I feel he truly cares abou5 his patients.

Dr. Pollock took another Drs blood test (from my OBGYN) that showed positive for Lyme and just put me on antibiotics. Never ran his own blood tests. After a year of getting worse and worse, I went to another specialist who took 23 vials of blood and discovered I also have Bartonella and Babesiosis, 2 common Lyme co-infections. I was never getting better with Dr. Pollock. He is not thorough and even though I was so sick for over a year, never even took a blood test to see if there was anything else wrong.

I had a great appointment with Dr. Pollock 10 days ago. We decided together that I would try a course of antibiotics to treat my Lyme disease. I could not have felt more hopeful after our appointment. He forgot to call in the promised prescription I have called his office every day since then to ty and get the prescription sent over to my pharmacy. Over10 different staff members/ nurses including two named Irene and Rosa have promised to call me back repeatedly. Maybe 20 times Irene will tell me:” Dr. Pollock is calling you right now,” but he never does. It has been wildly frustrating. I have NEVER experienced anything like this.

Our family have been patients of Dr. Pollock's for around 30 years. He is extremely knowledgable, interested in his patients' well being, spends ample time with each patient and is never alarmist. Dr. Pollock takes an old fashioned approach to medicine in the sense that he does not over prescribe, but is very judicious about when to take a more aggressive approach. With his vast experience, his diagnoses have always been spot-on. We have a great deal of trust in Dr. Pollock.

Dr. Pollock is not up to date on the latest Lyme research, does not remember important details of your case, and repeats the same stories and facts about the illness every appointment. However, he did correctly diagnose me with Lyme disease, so he does provide some value. Regardless, I strongly recommend that you do not see him for Lyme and associated diseases. You will waste valuable months and dollars if you do. There are far better doctors out there, especially in the NYC area.

Dr Pollock is old fashioned (and not in a good way) and is not up to date on current Lyme Disease treatments. I just got sicker and sicker under his care. He referred me to a neurologist who was arrogant and not helpful. I would not recommend him. Additionally, his staff is very rude. Thankfully, I am seeing a new doctor and getting better now.
