Dr. Alan Greg Shepard, MD

I waited for nearly three months to see Dr. Shepard to have an evaluation based on the request of another doctor due to neurological symptoms I have been having for nearly three years. When I finally saw Dr. Shepard he spent exactly 8 minutes with me (including history and exam) and told me that I simply had a vitamin deficiency (blood tests showed that he was wrong on that) and I had to ask twice to receive an MRI. When I went to get my MRI today I was asked about my symptoms, what they were checking for, etc. The tech looked quite puzzled and informed me that the brain MRI that Dr. Shepard had ordered was not specific to my symptoms and had to call radiology to make sure that they should run this test and not the one that 99.9% of doctors would run. After my MRI I confirmed with a friend of mine who has worked as a nurse in neurology for 10 years that, indeed, that was not at all the type of MRI I needed and I should definitely get a new doctor if he can't even be bothered to order… the correct test. Overall, this was a waste of my time and I will be seeking an appointment with another neurologist ASAP.

Dr. Shepard was friendly, but not even five minutes into my appointment I got the impression that I was wasting his time. (He called me that morning to ask if I could come in earlier than my scheduled afternoon time, so he must have had something else going on). Another physician suggested I see a neuro for migraine evaluation, but that didn't seem like a valid enough reason to be there, and neither were the migraines I've been living with for nearly 30 years. Overall, an unhelpful experience.

Dr Shepard was suddenly my Dr when his partner quit. I couldn't have been more pleased. I have a rare autoimmune-muscle/nerve disease (myasthenia gravis) as well as migraines. When Medicare denied an expensive and necessary med he fought with them for 3 months until it was approved. His staff is very helpful also.

After waiting 1 hour to see this guy, he felt it was ok to text while I was telling him my symptoms. After several minutes of total silence he suddenly realized I had stopped talking but only giggled when I said I was waiting for him to finish texting. What kind of practice is this? Very unprofessional.

Excellent, thorough, what I would expect from a Northwestern doctor.

had a brain Mri with lesions and the classic symptons of Multiple Sclerosishe insisted i have post concusive syndrome,went to mayo & hopkins to confirm and he still insistist not M.s.Way off

Extremely competetnt,caring, well organized. Calls with results himself. A keeper.

Spending a little more time listening to the patient would be a plus.
