Dr. Alan Jay Sonsky, MD

One of the best doctors we have ever had. Great bedside manner and extremely informative as well as thorough.

I have been seeing him for 7 months, still in pain, and no answers. Basically impossible to communicate with this office via phone or schedule timely appointments. Always waiting, waiting and more waiting with no relief. The spiral notebook where he writes nothing but minimal words and has none of my records in front of him is annoying. A physician shouldn't prescribe me the same med I'm already on, hoping that solves the problem they have minimal interest in figuring out. I'm going elsewhere. He said he would refer me to a surgeon if he couldn't figure it out, but his nurses never know what he has told the patient nor does he still to a plan, because he doesn't write it down. And he never referred me.

Dr. Sonsky seems to be a brilliant surgeon. He took time to explain to us the procedure (stomach tube). The system of rotating a different doctor each week (instead of following your own patients) turned out to be deadly for my husband. My husband received chemo and radiation for cancer. Then his swallowing muscles became nearly paralyzed. He needed a stomach tube for nutrition. Dr. Sonsky performed the surgery. He explained things well. However, the tube was in too tight. A CT that same evening showed that the tube was rubbing against the lining of his stomach. We were assigned Dr. McNeely for follow-up. TWO weeks later, we had an appt. When I called with concerns about pain and infection, the office staff informed us that "we call you to set up an appt. after surgery - so wait for the call." TWO weeks later, we had an appt. Too late. Infection raged in the tube site. Dr. McNeely ordered weak antibiotic. This went back and forth for MONTHS. NO one answered their after… hours machine. Never called back when I called during office hours. Dr. McNeely didn't even lift the dressing to assess the infection on our second visit, even though my husband was on meds for infection. The oncologist hospitalized my husband because of bleeding and infection of the stomach tube. Dr. Sonsky removed it and put in another tube. It was the last dat of Dr. Sonsky's week-long rotation at the BRGeneral hospitals. Then he left for vacation. He did NOT write orders for another doctor to follow my husband's recovery. We went home a few days later with Hospice. My husband's body was free of cancer, but he died days later from INFECTION!
