Dr. Alan C Tan, DDS

Alan Tan was born in Pennsylvania, but raised in the Bay Area, in the city of Sunnyvale. He and his good friend, Arnold, grew up with a keen interest in animals and science. It was always his intention to do something in the health field. During a college sabbatical in Colorado, he spent his time skiing, working, and volunteering at Aspen Valley Hospital while figuring out what he wanted to do with his education. A graduate of UC Berkeley with a bachelor's degree in biochemistry, he finished his studies there in 1986. Go Bears! That same year, he attended Tufts University School of Dental Medicine in Boston, Massachusetts. With a goal in mind and in sight, he excelled and graduated in the top of his class in 1990. All intentions were to return to California right after graduation, but after being accepted to the post-graduate orthodontic residency at Tufts, he stayed on in Boston for an additional two years.
Dr. Tan has been trained in orthodontics and dentofacial orthopedics, which …means he not only treats teeth, but also understands facial growth and development. He is a member of the Sacramento District Dental Society, the Pacific Coast Society of Orthodontists, the California Association of Orthodontists, and the American Association of Orthodontists.
For 15 years, Dr. Tan has been practicing solely in Woodland California and moved to his present location in an award-winning renovated Craftsman-style house in 2002. During this time, he has built a reputation of making great smiles, improving bites, and building self-confidence. Just ask around.
Dr. Tan and his team have a combined 130 years of experience in the orthodontic field. The team is what makes this place special. They understand the importance of customer service. Dr. Tan has taken the lead from businesses known for their customer service such as Nordstrom, Disneyland and Southwest Airlines, and incorporated this into his practice. He also gives back to the community with pro bono cases through the Smiles For Kids program, Sports guards for various sports teams at local schools, supports 4-H and FFA, sponsors Yolo county CASA (as well as sat on the Board of Directors for five years), speaks at local career days, raises funds at elementary school carnivals and festivals to benefit the school itself, among other endeavors.
In his personal life, he spends most of his time with his best friend and wife, Suzie. She recently started her own business, Camp Bow Wow in Elk Grove.It is a daycare and overnight camp for dogs which combines her 18 years of success as a manager in the investment management industry with her passion for our canine friends. This temporarily leaves little time for Alan and Suzie outside of their businesses. When they do have free time, they visit with family and friends, travel, dine out, run, kayak, ski, swim and snowshoe.
