Dr. Albert Henry Khine, MD

Dr. Khine’s nickname should be Dr. Kind. I could see him smiling even though he was wearing a mask. He listened thoroughly, asked clarifying questions, gave a quick and gentle exam, and then explained his plan of care. I’m happy to come back to see him again for the second step in healing my issue.

I had a very positive and productive visit with Dr. Khine at the Portland Clinic today. First, his medical assistant had great follow-up by squeezing me in the next day for a special problem visit. Second, the Portland Clinic (downtown) had very helpful and efficient staff from check-in through labs and x-ray. The SW location has everything on site which makes same-day labs and imaging easier if needed. The entire visit, which included a thorough exam, clinical recommendations, blood work, and x-ray, took less than 90 minutes. Dr. Khine did a thorough verbal history Q&A before my physical exam and then followed with his recommendations for diagnostic testing and treatment. I liked his approach: what is the problem most likely to be given the patient's past GI history and current presentation (taking into consideration both prior medical records and patient's own accounts). What testing and/or imaging will most likely reveal the causes and what recommendations can be provided to the… patient to support near-term relief of symptoms. As a middle-aged person who has managed her IBS & SIBO symptoms (mostly successfully) for 5+ years, chronic GI problems require a lot of research, persistence, and patience. My own experience with Dr. Khine is he's very good at helping patients get out of the "hot zone" and making sure he has a complete picture of the patient to make appropriate and relevant recommendations for their care.

After suffering extreme post-procedure complications (hopsitalization and surgery), I found that Dr. Khine is not at all about caring follow-up. He pawned me off to a colleague, and then did less out-reach to me than the emergency room physician I saw. A detached, not particularly involved physician. Never again.

Dr. Khine seems unsure of his diagnosis. I guess I have stumped him. He talks to himself as he is thinking and gives me choices for treatment. What do I know, he's the Doctor. Don't feel a lot of confidence leaving his office.

If you have a lot of questions, you will wear his patience thin. Visibly. Does not have a relaxing bedside manner. A rather cold fish.

Felt Dr. Khine could have been more compassionate diagnosing a liver treatment regiment.
