Dr. Albert Uyeun Won

I’ve been with Dr Won for 2 years now and have been thankful to found him at Kaiser. When I switched jobs and my insurance changed I was assigned to him and have only had good visits with him. I have several long term medical issues and he has been able to work with me to help figure them out and really seems to want to get me to a better place!

I met with Doctor Won as my new GP. I have three different, significant, issues that impact each as a treatment for one may not be acceptable for another, aspirin for pain and Ulcerative Colitis for instance. Several of my treatments require that I physically meet with my physician before continuing, which is a little annoying but that part isn't his fault. Dr. Won asked my why I scheduled the visit, which seem a little odd, since it was KP that requires it, so I said my GP retired and KP required that I meet with you to continue them. From this point forward, he spoke at me, ridiculing the treatments I'm on and announcing that he was going to change virtually all of them, right now. Each time I tried to explain how we had arrived at the current treatment plans, he raised his voice to speak over me, essentially saying that my input, history, concerns, and right to participate in my own medical care didn't make any difference to him. Eventually I just walked out, I didn't want to spoke… down to or belittled any more. I used to give Kaiser hi marks, now I'm afraid that was all due to my awesome GP. I guess I'll try to set yet another first meeting with a GP. I hope he's the exception rather than the rule. I can't think of one nice thing to say about the guy.

I had two experiences with Dr. Won (Kaiser) and they were both frustrating and inaccurate. The second time was the last straw. The first time I went, I was pretty sure I had the flu, but just wanted confirmation (because my boss was worried about me and wanted me to see the doctor). I had all the symptoms of the flu and my mother also had the same symptoms. I mentioned this but he disregarded that and focused on the nausea and stomach issues, saying that I had IBS and gave me drugs to combat the nausea and supposed IBS. Well, turns out I got better in a week, and other people had also gotten the flu around me so I was pretty sure he was wrong. It was frustrating that he didn't consider my input and didn't seem to have knowledge of the sicknesses going around (this particular flu strain turned out to be very prevalent that year). The second time, he thought I had herpes when I was pretty sure I just had canker sores (again, I only went because my boss was worried about me). He swabbed… my bleeding canker painfully and ordered a test for herpes. Well, turns out it wasn't herpes and it WAS just canker sores caused by stress. I've been taking lysine pills and I haven't gotten them anymore despite being stressed. It's pretty common knowledge that stress can be a cause for canker sores so he could've suggested taking vitamins or finding a way to relax. It seems like he has limited knowledge and downplays what patients have to say. Avoid at all costs!
