Alberto Tamayo, MD

Dr. Alberto Tamayo, MD, is a psychiatrist at MSU Health Care Psychiatry and an assistant professor at Michigan State University College of Human Medicine. He provides care in general psychiatry and has special interests in the subconscious drivers of human behavior, treatment-resistant depression, and the application of evolutionary theories to psychiatric care and psychotherapy.
Dr. Tamayo earned his medical degree from Michigan State University College of Human Medicine and completed his psychiatry residency at MSU, where he served as chief resident in 2023 and received the Outstanding Resident Teaching Award the same year. Before medical school, he earned his Bachelor of Science in Clinical Laboratory Sciences from Michigan State University.
He began his academic career as a Faculty Fellow with the College of Human Medicine, teaching and mentoring medical students early in their clinical training. Outside of his clinical work, Dr. Tamayo enjoys spending time outdoors with his …family, exercising, reading, and photography.
