Dr. Alex Dimitriu, MD

The mind is by far the most elegant and complex system that we know of, and I feel privileged to devote my career in pursuit of its understanding.


I trained at Stony Brook University Medical Center, New York, with a one year internship in internal medicine before psychiatry residency. My time on the medical floors made me comfortable with complex medical situations; but most importantly, it gave me a tremendous appreciation for the power of the human spirit. As chief of the consultation service, I enjoyed cases that blurred the boundary between neurology, psychiatry and general medicine. I learned to apply my love of art and physics to my work with people - striving to apply the most elegant psychopharmacology to an informed, empowered patient.

I completed my training at Stanford in sleep medicine. Through my fellowship, I quickly fell in love with the people, natural beauty, and energy of the Bay Area. I finished my training with a comprehensive, round-the-clock understanding …of the two most basic states of our lives; sleep and wake.

My intent to practice state-of-the-art medicine, and to always remain rooted in the human side of the work that I do.
