Dr. Alexander Abkin, MD

Dr. Abkin spent so much time explaining a surgical procedure to correct a surgery I had 6 years prior by a different doctor. He made me feel at ease and I finally have relief! He is professional and caring. I would highly recommend him.

I chose to use Dr Abkin 20 years ago when i was thinking about having a Weight Loss surgery. I had many medical issues at the time and many specialists. Many of my doctors encouraged weight loss but not so many actually said you should try Weight Loss Surgery. I decided to attend a seminar about the surgery, but the big question was Which doctor should i use? There were 6 different practices. After listening to the surgeons speak and answer questions i felt that Dr Abkin seemed to really care about the people who were coming and Needed to lose weight for Health Reasons. He seemed compassionate, he spoke to us in terms we could understand, and seemed very genuine. Next i checked in with my Specialists and asked them, "If you were going to send your mother for Weight Loss Surgery Which Surgeon would you send her to?" Without hesitation each of my doctor's recommended Dr Alexander Abkin! My weight Loss Journey with Dr Abkin and his practice has been a blessing. I had my Gastric… Bypass in 2004 and day of my surgery my Diabetes Resolved and 20 years later still not an issue. I had Sleep Apnea and was on CPAP and that resolved within 3 months. Dr Abkin definitely cares for his patients and program is designed to be a Lifelong partnership. For patients that stick with the program and follow the guidelines they will succeed. Dr. Abkin is a fantastic surgeon and person. He is approachable and kind, but stern. He explained everything very carefully to my husband and I and put him at ease. I would recommend Dr. Abkin to anyone looking for bariatric surgery.

Dr. Abkin dismissed me early on after surgery after I came in with complaints of complications. He didn't say a word at our visit, his office sent me a Certified letter! Come to find after being gravely ill and many inpatient hospital stays, that Dr Abkin cut my Vagus nerve when he did my Gastric Bypass. I am permanently nauseous for which I must take medication daily in order to eat, if I don't vomit anyway. I have been suffering for 7 years thanks to him. Many doctors have treated me with every test, medication, diet change and nothing has worked. I am still being hospitalized on a regular basis. I am still very sick. All because Dr. Abkin made a mistake/error. Now I have to go to a specialized clinic in Philadelphia for my condition because there is no one in NJ that can take care of me properly. So I can look forward to regular trips to Philadelphia for many years, possibly life as I may be getting what is called a Gastric Pacemaker, to try to undo what Dr. Abkin did to… me. I can't believe all these people saying how he saved their lives. Well he ruined mine. There has to be more than just me. I really wish someone would come forward.

At 42 i was on 4 diabetes medications, a statin for cholesterol, maxed out on lipids medications, blood pressure meds... chronic back pain, sleep apnea, my heart rate was in 120 range... i was TIRED! Under his guidance and skilled hands, along with the help of his kind and talented office staff- i made a decision to have the surgery... no question that i had was too stupid.. always treated with respect. 2 months later - i am down 47lb but more importantly - i am off ALL MEDICATIONS.. my labs are PERFECT! I am full of energy! I work out 3-4 times per week (something i never thought i would ever do again)... i feel great! I sleep well! My back pain is gone! I can truthfully say - Dr. Abkin SAVED MY LIFE and gave my kids their father back! Thank you! Forever grateful .

I’ve struggled with weight my entire life. You name a diet plan and I’ve tried it. My GP and cardiologist suggested surgery for over 5 years before I finally agreed. I was referred to Dr Abkin by my GP and it has been the best decision ever!! The only meds I have to take are the vitamins and calcium since surgery.
