Dr. Alexander C Chang, MD

I’ve been going to Dr Chang since the late 1970s . I have always gotten the best care for my eyes . I do have some specific problems that Dr Chang referred me to his other MDs for . Glad for the care I get here!

I am a senior with some relatively mild disabling conditions and a family history of retinal detachment and macular degeneration. My neurologist referred me to an ophthalmologist in order to rule out these and other conditions. When I made my appointment there were two things I was very clear on 1. I needed to schedule with an ophthalmologist and 2. Does this office take my insurance. Access dropped me off with a 3 hour wait for the return trip. 1st problem that came up was when I was giving them my information and paperwork. They took my insurance card to copy, but when I handed her the referral she informed me that Dr. Proud whom they had scheduled me with is an optometrist and not an ophthalmologist, but was capable of doing all the necessary testing. BTW she kept my referral paperwork. I had assumed in order to have it in my file for when I would schedule with one of their ophthalmologists. Shortly a couple of techs took me back to begin. During the testing the techs talked… down to me as if I could not possibly understand what was going on. Some of the testing I was unfamiliar with, but I certainly did not need things explained in terms a 5 year old could understand. There were a couple of anomalies detected during the testing so they did have to check with the doctor about doing further tests. When the testing was complete I informed them that I would like a printout regarding the appointment today and I was informed that they never give that information to the patients but send it to the the patient's doctors. I was not alright with that but figured I could investigate after I got home. Then I went in to see Dr. Proud who informed me that there were anomalies regarding the 'nerve bundles' in my eyes. IDK why she did not just say retinas. She also informed me that I have cataracts but that I did not need to see an ophthalmologist. Three months later neither of my physicians had received a copy of the results of my visit with Chang Eye group. And to top it off, I received a bill stating they did not have the correct address for my insurance. How can this be, when they photocopied my insurance card?

Please don’t go to this guy!! Don’t waste your time or money. I only went because I thought he could help me out and thought his extensive years in practice were valuable. I waited over an hour to see him and the entire 5 minutes spent with him were criticism, rudeness and condescending comments about my condition. He even said “you don’t see me complaining!” when I spoke about my condition which isn’t serious, I just wanted another opinion on. My favorite was him saying that I’m a “problem he can’t fix.” Never been treated so poorly as a patient anywhere. Do not recommend at all.

Be careful who you see at this practice. The website for Chang Eye Group is rather misleading. I've visited this group several times over 5 years. Most of the staff is top notch. However, athough there are several MDs listed on the website and there are other MDs' names printed on the entry door; the only MD (opthamologist) currently practicing there is the owner, Dr. Alexander Chang. I was told by the receptionist that none of the other MDs work there any longer. (??) I found Dr. Chang to be unhelpful, abrasive and condescending. Unfortunately, after experiencing his unprofessional demeanor on two different occassions, I will never make an appointment with him again.

very bad bedside manner. would not recommend to anybody.

Dr. Chang was excellent with my dad. He really took the time to examine him and explained his diagnosis. I was very impressed with his excellent bed side manner. I am going to come back to see Dr. Chang for myself. Great doctor!

I go to Dr. Chang once a year for an eye exam He is always professional' He has a helpful staff
