When daily low back and leg pain started preventing me every day from doing what I enjoyed, I finally accepted that I was going to have to do something. I sought help locally but didnâ??t like the anterior surgical approach (through my abdomen) a local surgeon described. I sought a second opinion from Dr. Mason at the recommendation of a friend. After reviewing Dr. Masonâ??s credentials and experience, I decided it was worth the 500 mile trip to his office. After a thorough workup and a clear diagnosis on the first office visit, he sent me home with orders and instructions to try several conservative management strategies first saying, â??Iâ??m a neurosurgeon. I make my living doing surgery. Iâ??m still telling you to try non-surgical therapies first!â?? So I tried them. After a full year with only marginal improvement, we were both finally convinced surgery was my best option. Dr. Mason did a TLIF at L5-S1 (you can look it up). Competent post-op care, slowly advancing activity limits,… and authoritative guidance on how to successfully rehab have given me a strong back, no more pain, a return to my normal activities, and enormous confidence in Dr. Mason. This guy takes his job VERY seriously. Thatâ??s the kind of surgeon you want cleaning up bony impingement on your spinal cord! I am enormously grateful for Dr. Masonâ??s care!

Staff was mostly courteous until a problem arose with scheduling. When I voiced my displeasure, a staff member became shockingly unprofessional and rude. Next thing I know, Dr Mason cancelled my surgery and I was told he was leaving the practice. Now I am on my own. This was actually fortuitous because I ended up with a Dr that immediately assesses my situation and took action. This is after over a year of indecision and bad information from Dr Mason and his PA. Long story short, I would not trust Dr Mason or his staff with important medical recommendations and decisions. Based on my experience I would steer clear of Dr Mason and his staff.

I have had to ask this doctor several times to explain my MRI results and to do follow through X rays. He told me to get an additional MRI and make another appointment, which I did. At that next appointment he said that I did not need the MRI. Needless to say, it was unprofessional to tell me to do one thing, then council against it at the next visit. I feel like he only cares about his "big" cases, and not mine. I feel like he does not listen and I felt like he was demeaning to me.

Excellent Doctor! He fused my spine and did a great job. His professionalism and knowledge are outstanding.

I was surprised when Dr Mason said he tho't my leg pain & weakness was coming from my neck, however MRI showed criticalstenosis. Following surgery I am experiencing great relief & returning to normal activities. Dr. Mason is personable and very knowledgeable in his field.

The entire staff at Boulder Neurosurgical was fantastic. I was always treated with professionalism and respect. My appointments were always on time. I was led through my treatments in such a way that I always felt comfortable and safe. I was allowed to pursue different treatment options and the choices were always mine to make. There was no pressure to go in any one direction yet I felt fully informed at all times. Post surgery care was excellent. I am now back to all the acvtivities I had given up before the surgery, actually my golf game is better than ever.

Anyone looking at my MRI could see the three severely herniated disks in my neck. I needed an anterior cervical diskectomy and fusion. Dr. Mason and his team did such a great job that I was back at work part-time in less than two weeks. He was very helpful and had plenty of time to discuss details with me. I chose a less invasive surgery (no laminectomy from the back) which he supported. I was back to normal activity in just a few months.

When faced with a diagnosis of a brain aneurysm, you want the very best neurosurgeon. As a healthcare professional myself, I first asked the opinions of friends who were physicians and nurses in the area. All suggested Dr. Mason. He was truly excellent in performing my aneurysm repair and follow-up. My recovery has been excellent. I highly recommend Dr. Mason if a neurosurgeon is needed.

Brain surgery is scary, and Dr. Mason told me all the risks involved, but made me feel at ease and confident at the same time. I highly recommend him and his staff (who were also very knowledgeable, confident and personable) Thank You!
