Dr. Alexander Edward Poor, MD

I have had a telehealth visit with Dr Poor for groin pain as I am an out of towner. Dr Poor is one of only a handful of surgeons who have expertise in the area of core muscle injury (also called sports hernia/athletic publagia groin/groin disruption). This turns out to be one of the the least understood and most under appreciated fields of groin surgery and sports medicine and it is therefore critical to find the right doctor. Dr Poor seems to have extraordinary knowledge about this part of the body. His carefully focused questions reflecting this deep knowledge allowed him to fairly quickly hone in on the basis of my injury. To my pleasant surprise he was able to explain everything to me in easy to understand terms. Dr Poor is concerned and compassionate. I had way too many questions but he made me feel that I was important and my questions were important. Dr Poor is kind, warm and compassionate. I look forward to completing my care in person with Dr Poor. I highly recommend him.

Despite being uncertain of his diagnosis (which ultimately ended up being incorrect), he pressured me to have surgery. He made me feel very uncomfortable because it seemed like his sole objective was just to operate and bring in business for the practice rather than be certain of the diagnosis. Before I was even done asking my questions, he was literally putting a surgical consent form in front of me to sign. I've never felt that uncomfortable at a doctor's visit. I'm all for physicians earning a decent living, but not at the expense of patient care. If you do see him, I strongly suggest getting a second opinion.

I am only Eight days post surgery, And has a combination of core surgery and hip (Dr. Coleman - torn labrum and bone overgrowth on hip, sometimes called a bone spur. I was in less pain two days after surgery than I was before surgery. I don’t count the first day because I was on strong pain meds, which I discontinued basically all pain meds less than 24 hours after surgery. The care by Dr. Poor, who answered a phone call from me at 4:30 am was excellent. The coordination between the two docs and PT, billing, special equipment needs was very smooth. PT care by Andrea has been terrific also. If you have a core injury, e.g, mine was adductors and mesh from previous hernia surgery, then this is likely the best care in America. Lastly, I went to several doctors prior to getting a correct and complete diagnosis at Vincera, including HSS in NYC, which provided only a partial diagnosis - they missed my labrum and hip issues as MRI was not extended to those locations on the hip.

Dr. Poor seems very knowledgeable on the biomechanics in the core and hip region. He is also very well spoken and takes the time to explain things thoroughly.
