Dr. Alexander Steven Tovar, MD

After a very careful review of the care Dr Tovar gave my Dad I can honestly say my view is that he is not a good clinician or surgeon. There seems to be a MAJOR DISCONNECT in the treatment and understanding with the other doctors participating in my father's care. I found his decision to wait on surgery irresponsible and could have been fatal had we not gotten a second opinion at another hospital. I suggest anyone who has Dr T. serious look into a second opinion.

I had surgery at Saint Josephs Hospital in Burbank, California. There were multiple complications and unexpected problems from the surgery. Dr. Tovar's response was simply "Let's wait and see in a few days" even though I was in agony and nothing was working right.He is a whirlwind when he comes in to visit. I am lucky if he spends a whole two minutes with me. Indeed, I was asking him a follow-up question when he simply walked away and waved his hand at me not to worry. How rude.This doctor is very cocky and self-centered, and I got the strong sense that he was more interested in impressing the pretty young intern who was following him around than in caring for me as a patient.It took one of Dr. Tovar's colleagues to step in and properly diagnose and then fix the problem. What a relief.Dr. Tovar is the absolute LAST person I would ever chose to provide me medical care again. I was so disappointed with him as a doctor and as an individual. Too bad I can't rate him a zero (which he… deserves), so a one rating will have to suffice. Avoid at all costs.

I had a cyst removed by Dr.Tovar. He said it'd be a minor thing, that I'd be back to normal activities in a week. Here it is a month later and my incision still hasn't healed, I wasn't able to work for over 2 weeks, haven't been able to exercise. I'm not even sure he got the whole cyst out. The stitches looked like they were put in by a 3 year old.

Things you should know about Tovar:1. He'll start cutting without running any diagnostics to find out how deep into the tissue he needs to cut (found this out the hard way after my wound wouldn't heal). He had no idea how to get my skin to seal after surgery and I had to go to another hospital.2. He refuses to sign any paperwork, including authorizations for you to return to work even after his own surgeries.3. His office won't help you with anything and will send you invoices even after you've paid them off.
